Poll question: What do you use to heat your home? |
|
Edited on Wed Dec-07-05 10:28 PM by eyepaddle
Inspired by all the weather and climate related threads let's see how DU stays warm. If you use more than one method (eg heating oil + space heater feel free to sound off)
on edit: how did I forget heating oil? I used to deliver the stuff!

It's been known to be more reliable (and hotter) than solar energy. But this is according to my concubines, you have to ask them for details.
And thank you kindly for the welcome. What a great progressive community to make friends in!

besides the heat that my refrigerator and computer/monitor throw off. I have natural gas, an electric space heater, and a candle, or two.

13. Heat pump. Also have a gas fireplace (propane). We use |
|
a space heater (oil radiator type thing) to help heat our greatroom (it's pretty big, and the windows in the room suck out a lot of the heat (crappy insulation).

20. We use a fire place in our living room and wood/cook stove in our kitchen. |
|
We are trying to get off the grid and are halfway there. Both firesources heat our house and because we use trees seasoned on our own property it costs us virtually nothing. Now, electicity, that's another matter. We still haven't figured out our way around that...

We've been here almost 5 years and have never had to heat the house. We just close the windows. This is the only time of year our electric bill is affordable. In the summer it runs over 300 a month and we keep the a/c at 78-80.

Had a notice on the latest bill that our budget payment would increase by up to 40% starting next month. I live in Minnesota, and it's been mighty cold lately.

23. Wood, with propane back-up. |
|
I have been fortunate to get the wood for free, but the propane is $1.99 a gallon with a 300 gallon minimum purchase.
