I'm at my family's for the holdidays. We went to my brother's place last night for supper.
keep in mind my dad watches Faux news and listens to rush limbaugh, both my parents voted for "bubble boy" (twice)
my brother's new partner inadvertently brought up politics. and though we all disagreed on specifics of issues like Iraq/wire-tapping --
BOTH MY PARENTS said they thought bush* was the WORST president they have ever seen....
surprisingly the discussion was very controlled - no yelling etc.
we also discussed religion -- broke all the rules about NOT discussing politics and religion.
I did get a chuckle out of my dad regarding the lies about WMDs/Iraq. He maintained that bush* did not lie, that bush* was misled
I said - yeah, you're right bush* didn't mislead - we mis-followed

My ex-best friend still won't talk to me b/c I told her bush* isn't a Christian. She said I might as well have said it about her! (Well ... if she believes he's all holy ...) Some of them will never come around.

my parents have always been repugs...until Clinton. My dad says now that Clinton was the best president this country has ever had and he absolutely HATES chimpyboy. You are lucky you didn't get into some major messes with those conversations. I'm glad it turned out OK though.

but I am really working on their kids. One of my nieces used to receive assistance to help pay for daycare...because she and her husband both make $8.00/hour each they are deemed too wealthy to qualify for assistance. I told her it was because of the party she supports, that they have gutted all assistance for poor people and that her vote matters. I could see I got a point across. Maybe she will start thinking of stuff like this now that she is directly affected.
