| Punk teenager just backed/smashed into my truck. |
|
Amazingly the kid came to my door and said he did it. He's 16 in this huge F-250 or whatevah his daddy gave him visiting my neighbor's kid who had another kid with a deer in the back of His truck they be lookin at.
Took off the left back lamp, bumper hanging. They is SKEERED TO DEATH I'm gonna call the cops! I fucking SHOULD!
But, hey, I'm not a nasty person and I remember being a teenager. So, I go out and look, get his name, Daddy's name and number and friends names. And tell him he is lucky he hit MY truck, cause otherwise someone would call the cops and he would lose his license.
Frankly, I was impressed they hadn't been drinking. So I went nice.
Fucker's dad is gonna give my old truck a paint job tho.

If you trust them enough that they will pay for the damage.

and wasn't drinking.
That sounds like a responsible kid to me, not a "punk".

Quite frankly as a "punk" kid I feel sorry for the kid who did the right thing.
I would've done the same thing if I were him only I'd harbor some tough feelings towards the asshole who behind my back calls me a punk for owning up to what I did...

Punk?
Why immediately presume he had been drinking?
Finally, I doubt the kid would lose his license for hitting a parked car.

The neighborhood kids have done a lot of nasty shit. To my/neighbor's homes/vehicles.
Punk? Yeah, the term I use for a child with the keys to a truck larger than they can handle.
Lose his license? Yeah buddy. If I had called the Police and file a report and gotten the insurance involved I could have wrecked his parent's insurance policy. And his license that would probably be wiped sooner or later because he is the son of a rich man and will have it all taken care of anyway.
What's your fucking problem? Why do you you stalk me?

Sons of rich men are not immune. That's really the "problem," isn't?
Ever been in an acccident? According to your logic, which vehicle can't you "handle?"

I have been in 3 major accidents. (All of us are supposedly destined to 5 in this life time.) The two intense automobile accidents I was fortunate enough to live through remind me about Insurance.
Grow Up.

calling a kid who did the right thing a punk, asking why someone who called you out on it is stalking you. Putting alot of hatred out there just cuz he might be the son of a rich man...
You're the one who needs to grow up, the kid did the right thing, why are you so hateful?

| 22. Depending on the state, it's required by law. |
|
Any accident in Ohio that causes over $400 worth of damage MUST be reported (of course, plenty of people don't, but that's the law).

I just did something similar a week or so ago.
Sometimes you just know it was them being a dopey kid, busy or having too much fun. Young woman, probably 18 or 20 backed out of the parking place (Christmas shopping) too quickly without looking and hit my legs. I saw it at the last moment and moved so when she hit me it just spinned me around. Not a scratch or a bruise but she was hysterically weeping when she stopped. I knew she had learned, I was not hurt and I'll bet you $1000.00 she never, ever backs out without looking at least twice.
You were not quite so lucky, you had damage. Still, sometimes it is just a life lesson to give. I am certain there are others who will not agree but I think you did the decent thing.
It all depends on their reaction. If they don't seem to care or they are drinking and messing around then they need a harder lesson.

A real "punk kid" would have either run away or gone running to Daddy for backup before facing you. (His friends didn't run off, either--that also speaks well for him.) You rewarded him for his class and maturity by returning his respect and not making things more difficult. If he inherited that from his folks, hopefully they'll be willing to sit down and try to work something out. It WAS an accident--they weren't joyriding, drinking, or out looking for trouble. Here's hoping for a happy ending.

I was backing out of the driveway once in a neighborhood hit this guy's car park in front of his house behind me, it was raining really heavy and I didn't see it. I go up to the guy's tell him explain the situation, and he understands and couldn't believe I'd actually come to his door and tell him what happened he figured if something like that would happen someone would cut and run, I told him about the time someone hit my car in a shopping mall parking lot and ran from the scene, leaving me with bashed in bumper, He was cool with the honesty and my insurance company paid for it.

well, actually, it was rear ended by the last car he hit after swiping three others. Think he got the high score. My car has over 100,000 miles and I'm driving it into the ground, so I don't care about resale value and didn't want to pay the $500 deductible, and since I could still get the trunk down if I push the thing in hard as I pull it down, I let it go.

|
I always have called the cops when there was an accident. Not to arrest someone, but just so that the insurance flows more smoothly.
But on the other hand, for a 16 year old, if an accident goes on his record his insurance might go up more than it will cost to fix your truck, so it might be better to forgo the insurance on this one, and let them pay for the fixing with cash.

I would have made sure to get pictures of the damage, the other vehicle, and of the driver. The kid and his father may balk at whatever repair charges you present.
But how nice if the friendly, neighborly way resolves things peacefully! Good luck. How about letting us know how things turn out?
