But I must say that my interest in Bruce Springsteen has been rekindled since he was campaigning with John Kerry. I have a new appreciation and understanding of his lyrics since he became more vocaly opposed to Bush and the neo cons.

Not my issue. The three of them are no prize. Those who get my appreciation and adulation are those who work behind the scenes for the common good. Again, this is only my opinion, and not really worth getting into a tizzy over.

It's not as if Brad has pretended to stay with Jennifer. And I really don't think it's appropriate to judge someone for following their heart. To spare some feelings? Makes no sense. And it really makes no sense for outsiders who know none of the facts to judge them.

I just don't understand the thirst for gossip (even if just a small thirst) that people seem to have. I'm not going to condemn or defend any parties involved because it's all pointless. Movies and actors interest me too, but only insofar as it is in an artistic capacity. I don't care who's married to whom or who is fucking whom, and I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would want to waste their time arguing over it. At least discussing them in an artistic context has some merit.

Whereas you seem quite intent on arguing over it. That's the difference.
And that's my whole point: It doesn't affect me and I don't care, and I think it's ridiculous that anyone else does as well.
As for sports, as much as I hate them, at least they give some people a sense of meaning and sort of social unity. I really hope you don't get that sense of meaning and unity from celebrity relationships and gossip.

This whole fucking culture where it's considered worthwhile and even profitable to follow celebrity gossip is just beyond my comprehension. I never even took notie as to who was involved in the argument, just that there was one, and that it was so completely irrelevant.

| 70. It sways me, but not decisively. Art is about ideology as much as talent |

and an artist who agrees with me politically I feel is more likely to see and feel things the way I do. So it impresses me, and might get me to look closer at them.
There are right-wing nutjobs I like anyway as artists, although learning that someone is a Republican turns me away from them. They have to overcome that with talent to win me over.
There are a lot of factors I look for. Emotional connection, passion, ideology, talent, sophistication, subtlety. If I can connect with someone, I do, which is why I don't get into the hate-fests around here against popular actors or singers. Political agreement is just one factor.
There are times I'll buy an album or book or see a movie to make a statement: F/9-11, the Dixie Chicks, etc. But that's different.

finding out a public figure I already liked shares my political views often raises my opinion of them personally. And if someone I'm unfamiliar with does something (movie, album, etc.) that is explicitly political it may make me more interested in checking out their stuff; however, it won't necessarily make me like it!

If I really hate their acting/singing/etc. I hate it less vehemently.
If I already liked them, I support them even more.
Meanwhile, if I find out they're Repubs, they get the opposite reaction.
