I love the Hornblower stories. I have a thing for the Brits and how they do mini-series and movies!

Read the books - they're better than the (good) series and explain this particular Mr. Bush in greater detail.

| 6. I'm taping while listening with one ear." When I watch the series I'll |
|
try to see if they "embellished" Mr. Bush to make him fit the comtemporary Bush theme.
I read one of the books long ago, but have loved the A&E Series, because it's not of our time....and escapism. Plus I loved Robert Louis Stevenson....and miss that those times are so "out of date" we don't see much about them anymore....:-(

As do the episodes, as a matter of fact. (the first in the story arc ("midshipman") being the worst book IMHO.) The books were not written in the order the story is told (and it shows in the books). Bush is descripbed as a stiff and unimaginative officer - but a fine man and friend to Hornblower in the books. He accompanies Horatio from lieutenant to Commodore. IMHO he is portrayed exceptionally well in the series.
I do indeed love the series as well - so much that I imported the boxed DVD set from the UK (it already included the "new" A&E episodes).

Maybe People magazine will choose him as sexiest man alive one of these years. (BTW, my reverie on his looks is not meant to demean his acting ability. :) )

| 9. He looks "peaked" in this latest episode. Has he been ill? |
|
Edited on Tue Dec-02-03 08:54 PM by KoKo01
Not quite up to his "gusto" in the earlier series. He was really an "idol" for awhile when the series first came out. He was in a movie, I don't remember which, though, and he wasn't as impressive as he was in "Hornblower."
Doesn't matter.....I still like his portrayal and the series. Whatever.
On Edit: LOL's! For those of you who don't know "peaked" it means "pale/without color."

|
well, but the remake was pretty awful, to me, anyway. I've not seen Solomon and Gaenor. Is it good? Art Film?
