| Is having a cut-off time for phone calls at night old-fashioned? |
|
I wouldn't call someone after 10pm at night unless they asked me to call back and gave a time cut-off later than that. My daughter called me at 11:03 last night which I think was too late (my daughter lives in my house, she called me on her cell phone from 2 floors down to say goodnight and tell me she thought she was going to be too sick to go to school today).
Anyway, I was just thinking that it's rude to call someone after 10pm and before 7am and wonder if I am just old-fashioned.

It's courteous. For me 10 PM and 8 AM. But, my family and closest friends know they can call anytime if they really need to talk.
...and your daughter called you while in the house?
Hope she's not sick

He's grown now, age 27, and has two kids of his own. The teen years got a little rough, but we're close again...he just doesn't want my advice...juat wants me to be the doting grandma.

| 15. Yep, my son is a teen and I can feel him pulling away from me. |
|
We have a completely different relationship, he doesn't want to share and he doesn't like me showing him affection (that is really hard!). He feels like I'm babying him and because he's small for his age, he thinks that is why. He asked me the other day if I loved him when he was a baby because a teacher told him that not getting love could stunt a child's emotional and physical growth (he's really reaching to find a reason he hasn't grown much yet).:-(

It's common courtesy. Unless the call is an emergency people should abide by your rules as to when you will and will not accept calls.

It's your house, your rules.
In my house I have a cut off time of 12:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m.

Or if it is, I'm old-fashioned. I don't call people after 9pm (unless they are blood relatives who leave me a message telling me to call them later than that) or before 10am.
I keep weird hours, so calling me after 10pm is just fine, but let there be mercy on your black soul if you call before 11am unless you're on fire and only I can put you out.

I usually don't feel comfortable calling someone past 9 PM and 10 PM is the absolute latest... unless I know for sure that they stay up late and aren't living with someone else who will mind. I don't mind bugging my friends very late at night, but try to take into consideration what their living situation is. Cell phones are a little bit different situation as well; if I want someone to call me and I figure their cell phone is off, I will call their cell phone at whatever time of night and leave them a message.

First of all, I don't think it IS, but seriously, if it is, so what?
It's your home, and you're entitled to set the rules, and if you expect quiet after 10 pm, then that's what you should have.

I'm not going to change what I think about people calling late at night (and my initial reaction when I get one of these calls that something is wrong) but I was wondering if other people thought the expectation was a throwback to the past or not.
