It's Lent! Did you give up anything?

I gave up meat/chicken/animalflesh for the next 40 days. I am not a big beef fan but I love chicken so we will see what happens.

15. I am an A La Carte-Apathetic Catholic at the moment

However the concept of Lent is one of giving up a favorite item, meditation and contributing to a charity. Since I am already not a meat eater and am currently on a diet I don't think I can give ip any more food items. I am going to do some think and meditation on my life and will save a little each pay check and contribute to a worthy organization.

You don't have to be religious to contribute to a charity or organization you care about either with voluntarism or cash. I think that is a very noble segment of the season of lent.

18. Back in the dark ages when I attended Catholic grade school....

the nuns used to make us write down on a piece of paper that they collected what we were giving up. They swore to the gods that they would not read what we wrote, but would return it to us after Easter so we could determine how well we did.

Well, most of the kids would swear off television, candy, cookies or some other dumb thing. I always foreswore smoking...not that I smoked anything.

No nun ever made a comment about what my piece of paper said, so I guess it means they were not lying. Whodathunkit?

I sometimes miss Lent. It's nice knowing my limits, but I'm kind of out of vices - I stopped smoking, I rarely drink, I can't give up meat due to physical limitations, I don't do other drugs, I don't eat much sugar...

The things I could give up are good for me, so I think I'll give up Lent for Lent.

I'm more spiritual than religious and don't follow all the Catholic dogma. I believe in the major things: God, afterlife, Jesus as Savior and Messiah, the 10 Commandments, etc.
