| I hate it when people rev their engines really loudly |
|
Is it really necessary? My car makes loud noises but I can't really help it. I know people do that on purpose.

| 2. People who rev their motorcycle engines at stops are morons |
|
I've been riding most of my life, and when I was a kid my father told me why that revving that so many do is Not A Good Idea. Bozos. It's something I've only really seen much in the US, because elsewhere motorcycles are widely accepted as legitimate means of transportation and are commonly used as such, whereas in the US they're treated more often like 'toys' and are rarely a primary means of transport.
Of course, if the rider's on a Harley he's probably just trying to make sure the engine is still running. Not that most of the the latter-day Harley riders know anything about motorcycles, really, having only recently bought the Mid-Life Crisis Starter Kit or the Advanced Yuppie Poseur package...

| 3. There're two good reasons to rev |
|
that I can think of.
One, if you're tuning and checking to see if the spark advance is right, or if you've got a miss or a horsepower drop anywhere along the power curve.
Two, if you're racing or just want a good launch, you want to get your RPM up around the peak of the power curve. But you rev to that and hold it; you don't run it up and down.
Other than that, it's just stampin' and pawin' and snortin'.

| 4. Usually, it's because they have a small dick. |
|
If they would only realize that many women who hear a revving engine immediately think "small dick" they would probably stop.
