Update on my mother.

For those who may have missed it, here's my initial post about my mom:

I spoke with my sister awhile ago. Mom's doctor is pretty sure she has aspiration pneumonia. For those who don't know what that is, it can come on when a person aspirates food particles into their airway. According to the medical information I read, normally our lungs will clear that out with no problem. But for people like my mother, who already have a lung condition, that doesn't always happen; thus, they can develop aspiration pneumonia.

Mom is still in the hospital, but the doctor wants to move her out of ICU onto the regular medical unit, as soon as a bed is available. Her temperature has gone down from 103 degrees to 101.4. Her heart rate has gone back down to normal, and the severity of her headache has lessened a great deal. Neither of my sisters got to talk to mom today (both my sisters work at the hospital), because she was sleeping each time when they stopped by. But that's good. Mom needs rest. But they said mom's color was better, and she seemed to be resting comfortably. I'm going to check with them tomorrow to see how it's going with mom.

And I want to thank all of you for your kinds thoughts, and good wishes for my mom. I appreciate it more than I can say.

PS. How old is she? Is this a smoking related thing? Lung problems, that is? I haven't read this thread so sorry if I'm asking questions you've already answered.

PPS. I love Mary Cassett's paintings. As you may know, she often painted women as well as mothers and children.

My mom never smoked; she was a preemie born in 1935 (thus, she's 70). As you may know the lungs are one of the last parts of the body to develop, so preemies often have lung-related problems, though there are better treatments now for preemies. She's been dealing with this condition for about 4-5 years, but had been better over the last 6-7 months, until now. Seems she's on the mend, though, thank God.

Well, now, that is pretty good news! I'm so glad they have a better handle on what's happening with her....

Pneumonia of any sort is NO JOKE, and not meant to be taken lightly...

Is she wearing supplemental oxygen? I would suspect she is for now, anyhow.....

I continue to keep you, your mom, and your whole family in my thoughts, and close to my heart!

11. Mom apparently has not had to have supplemental oxygen

But it's certainly at the ready if she needs it. I was glad when my sister told me mom was sleeping most of the day. That tells me the coughing is calming down, as well as the heartbeat, fever and headache.
