| 1. This is interesting...it shows an informal "pecking order" |

among the Wal-Mart employees. This is a classic hallmark of slave-mentality. (i.e. We associates are lowly peons, but the janitorial staff is even lower; Let's take our collective frustrations out on them.)
This kind of behavior is officially condemned, but it is a hard-wired fact of Wal-Mart's hierarchical corporate culture.

although it's the type of thing I remember my middle school teacher lecturing us about after some bad bathroom behaviour. it does seem like they have reasonable practices in place to help prevent it in the future though.

I'm on a very limited budget right now. And somethings are just cheaper there.

Air Canada service staff get burger-coupon bonus Reuters, 11.25.03, 5:40 PM ET MONTREAL (Reuters) - Pleased with workers who scored top marks on customer service, Air Canada recently picked 100 at random to give them a bonus -- a C$5 ($3.78) hamburger coupon that expires in five weeks.
Employees winning the award were sent a personal letter containing the coupon, redeemable until Dec. 31 at the Harvey's hamburger chain, Second Cup coffee shops or other restaurant outlet owned by Cara Operations Ltd., which provides food service for the insolvent airline.
Air Canada said the awards came at no cost to the carrier, mainly because the coupons will soon expire.
Earlier this month, Cara warned its own investors that Air Canada, the dominant airline in Canada and world No. 11, may cancel its catering contract.
Some Air Canada in-flight service employees were forced to forgo a bonus earlier this year when the airline won court protection from its creditors and squeezed some C$1.1 billion of concessions from its unions.
The burger bonus comes as two groups bidding to control Montreal-based Air Canada through equity infusions have offered its chief executive and top restructuring manager multimillion-dollar stock or cash bonuses to remain with the airline through its bankruptcy protection proceedings.
($1=$1.31 Canadian)

Canadians spending $5 CDN *in Canada* get $5 worth out of it! Seriously, in terms of cost of living, $1US = $1CDN+/-! I don't know whether that came off the wire like that (in which case, sigh, Reuters ought to know better), or whether you plugged the numbers into the exchange rate converter somewhere, but really, *the exchange rate only applies if the currency is crossing the border*. Otherwise, the best basis of comparison is by market value, which, of course, is too hard for journalists to plug into a tiny little squib.
*Nevertheless*, I'm not saying that to defend Air Canada -- they're really cheaping out (and ask me sometime about the ~$500 000 in back wage parity they owe my dad sometime) here... In their defense, though, I will say that compared to the service I've gotten on two major US carriers, Air Canada is awesome -- and that's saying something, considering how awful they are!
