| I Took my Small Child to the Theater, the Laundry and Restaurants, |
|
Edited on Mon Jun-12-06 12:21 PM by MrsGrumpy
(albeit not often) when I was a single parent. Sue me. Sue me Hard.
I'd do it again as well. See? As a single parent (on a very fixed income) I wasn't able to afford a baby sitter...a washer/dryer combo...BUT, the one thing I felt I was allowed to do was live my life. Sorry I appear to have been mistaken.
Yes, I know there are awful parents with awful kids out there. But I'm telling you this, I'd rather hang out with either one of my children then about 90% of adults I meet these days. With their guffaws and shouts in the restaurant...making out in front of me in the theater... and, God Forbid, hogging 8 out of the ten washers because they are more important than me.
What's amazing to me (perhaps it's because I'm a parent) I don't run into nearly as many awful kids as I do awful parents...and awful adults in particular. Think about that next time you are too busy to put your cart away at the grocery store and it slams into my car.
Rant over. I'm off to take my blood pressure meds. :hi:

I knew all about how to parent, too, and then I became one. And learned some really big lessons about judging others.

I rarely have a problem with kids in any public place. It's usually the adults I have a problem with.

I'm sorry. I can refrain from making a fuss (and I did), but I can't make myself enjoy it.

| 8. Just as long as you keep your kid under control, I don't care. |
|
I'm a kid myself, as most everybody on DU knows by now, and I've always been irritated by wild children wreaking havoc all over the place. My mother would eat me for lunch if I started trouble, and I knew it. (I still know it; she'll still eat me for lunch. :D)
In LynneSin's situation, it sounded like the adult was rude as anything, and the kid wasn't much better. So sue Lynne for getting pissed off.

I understand crying and whatnot.....But when the kid is a toddler, running around, I expect some restraint to be made. Seems to me that many parents don't even try, and that's what drives me boinkers.

got a link for that assertion? I have been on DU for years, and I've never once seen a poster say to hell with all kids, in all situations, at all times.

My son, even at 15, is a more pleasant human being to be around than a lot of so-called adults. I took him to restaurants, movies, and on errands, and if he ever misbehaved, we just left. Period.
I get really tired of the parent/kid bashing that goes on.

I have three myself and there were times they cried in the grocery store, but I had to get diapers or other stuff. When your husband travels you have to take them with you everywhere you go. I dreaded the grocery store because I was so worried that the baby would cry and people would be pissed.
Usually, though, people were nice about it. And, of course, the chances of the baby crying diminished over time as they got older.
Even if you don't have kids and never plan to have kids, we need to do the very best we can for ALL kids so that they will grow up to be smart and self-supporting and happy when they are dispensing our meds or driving us in the ambulance.
:hi:
How is your dad? I read an update, but haven't been on much. He is in my prayers, as are you and your family.

What sort of adult is? There are really too many other grown-up problems in this world.
I never understand the number of threads here, people bitching about things children do.

| 24. I think it's just about rude people in general |
|
And rude parents have rude kids.
I hate to sit next to crying children on the bus. But I hate more sitting next to people who are yapping at 300 decibels on their cell phone about all of their personal problems. And I hate sitting next to people who take up more than their share of the seat (not larger people, but the young men who think they need to assert their dominance by splaying their legs and arms all out over 3 seats and smirk when you try to sit down next to them). And people who won't move to the back when the bus is crowded, and people who won't get up for old people, and people who block the aisle by insisting on standing in front of an empty seat.
There are just a lot of rude idiots out there. Some of them have children, and they teach their children their rude idiotic behaviors.

I agree with your post, and everyone knows I'm a single mom too. I take my kid everywhere with me when I'm not working.
At least when it's a kid, they're too young to know better. Adults who act like assholes/jerks/babies are too much. It's not just parents out there who can't/don't control their kids, it's all the people you named, plus many, many more.
