| How do you treat a hangover? |
|
I had a horrible one today. Say you wake up, you're nauseous, tired, and weary from all of those 40s.
What do you to to be well?

A homeopathic remedy. Though it's best taken before you go to bed to prevent a hangover.

Best thing for a headache hangover. Drink about 24 ounces of lemon or orange gatorade over an hour period and wala!!!! Time to go out drinking again.

except after a long run (its intended purpose), but my extensive testing (me after too much alcohol) indicates that it does a damn fine job of hydrating the body and making the head feel better after a night of carousing in the quarter.

I absolutely swear by it. If you have access to an oxygen tank, that works too. But get the Gatorade first. John Failing access to either, I recommend resuming drinking heavily.

I've been queasy (taking Vicadin for pain) and eating a QP settles my stomach every time. And, remember to take Tylenol before you go to bed, just in case you get a headache.

Like the unwelcome intruder into my brain that it is. I usually turn the channel to one of those faith healers and smash my head on the screen a few times while they are reaching their healing hands out to the true believers.
Not really. I usually just sleep a few more hours, eat a huge pile of food, then sleep some more.

At some point in time, the maker of Excedrin started putting acetaminophen (Tylenol) in it as well as the original aspirin and caffeine.
No one who drinks should take acetaminophen. It is extremely hard on the liver and kidneys.
My suggestion is aspirin; if you can get the Canadian over-the- counter aspirin, caffeine and codeine combination, all the better. Wash it down with a glass or two of light beer. Go back to sleep for two hours. You will be fine when you wake up.

Excedrin is the only thing available that gets rid of headaches for me..I don't need it too often, though. I brought back some great OTC painkillers from Ireland that had codeine in them and they were great...they are also gone:( I don't undertsand why they don't sell something like that over here.

Excedrin may well rid you of your headache, but it may kill you in the process.
Get it? NO acetaminophen (Tylenol), especially if you drink, at all, ever.
It's fine for children when they have fevers, for which they should not take aspirin, because of the risk of Reyes Syndrome.
Other than that, most adults who drink even a little bit, now or then, or who are exposed to chlorinated solvents in their workplace, should stay very far away from acetaminophen. There may be exceptions when certain adults cannot tolerate aspirin or ibuprofen or narcotics.

| 27. Just be aware that not all doctors are that educated about this stuff |
|
And by that I mean acetaminophen and its effects. Many if not most doctors rely on pharmaceutical salespeople to give them the latest on drug information. Most M.D.'s, in my experience, sneer when someone suggests that acetaminophen in "normal" doses may be toxic, but in fact, it may well be,depending upon the person and the circumstances.
I'm a toxicologist, which isn't to say I know more than a medical doctor (I'm just the academic type), but it's my business to learn this stuff about liver and kidney toxins.
So my advice would be to do your own research so you feel good about whatever you decide.
Unless you are a child or teenager with a fever, or an adult with bleeding ulcers, I don't see where going with aspirin can be a negative alternative to acetaminophen. No doubt someone would challenge me on this, but I think I could hold my own.
In the meantime, cheers!

because you may very well get sicker with lots of water sitting in your stomache. If you have the alcohol in your stomach try gatorade and maybe some food. moderation is best.

and take aspirin, if needed.
Only time will help you. The hair of the dog option only sets you up for the next hangover. Of course maxanne's hangover rule is simple. There are 2 ways to prevent a hangover. Don't drink - or don't stop.
Whatever you do, people - DO NOT take Tylenol while you're drinking as a hangover prevention. Tylenol (acetominephen) when combined with alcohol is deadly for your liver.

The primary causes of a hangover are dehydration and Vitamin C depletion. If you have a headache, take some acetominophen.

Try to remember to drink a big glass of water before you go to bed, and drink LOTS of Gatorade when you wake up. The majority of hangover misery is from dehydration.
DH swears by Gatorade and vegetarian ramen noodles. I think the sodium from the ramen noodles might speed up rehydration, not sure, but my hubby swears by that remedy.
I tend to feel better if I just drink a lot of fluids and don't eat anything at all for several hours after I get up.
If all else fails, I just have a Bloody Mary. That ALWAYS works for me :-)
