matrix multiply:

To find the value in row 1, column 1 of the answer, consider row 1 of the first matrix and column 1 of the second matrix. Reflection:

A way of transforming a shape in the same way that a mirror does.
The reflection of a shape in a mirror line is an identical shape which has been flipped over.

When an object is placed a certain distance in front of a mirror, its image in the mirror appears the same distance away from edge of the mirror. Likewise, all the points on a shape and all the points on its image are same distance away from the 'mirror line'.

The matrix which performs a reflection in the line y= x tan angle A is:

cos 2A Sin 2A

Sin 2A -Cos 2A

so multiply - now - darn it.

Now the above is the definition of reflection about that line - if you want to know why it is the definition, you need someone with teaching skills!

Oh, ok, I read you're post below. Hmm, it may help to think of it as an algorithm like this:

if they say reflect (a,b) about the y-axis it's R{a,b} = (-a,b)
if they say reflect (a,b) about the x-axis it's R(a,b) = (a,-b)
if they say reflect (a,b) about the origin it's R(a,b) = (-a,-b)

Is that what you mean? If it's confusing to you just visualize it until it makes sense, just keep visualizing it.
