I went through Army basic in 1974. It's all basic training, though -- you know? The drill sergeants of D-15-4 (Fort Knox, KY) assigned each of us our own personal nickname, too. Mine was "Shitstick," though, because of my big ol' 7 5/8" noggin, the black recruits generally called me "Headquarters."
