| Did anyone see the Oprah show yesterday about "keeping secrets"? |
|
This is SO fucking gross.
This girl was bulimic, and would binge, then purge, but not puke in the bathroom, because her husband would smell it. She would go out to the garage or closet then puke in a ziploc freezer bag, then put it IN HER FUCKING CLOSET. Once a week, she would gather the 14-21 bags up, put them in a box, and drive them to a dumpster. Her family staged an intervention, on the A & E show, and she hasn't purged in 7 months.
Sorry for grossing you out.

Did Oprah's show do a good job with that topic? Did they talk about how the acid from the vomit actually strips the enamel right off of teeth? I thought that was interesting when I saw a show about it before. Of course, having no teeth becomes the least of their problems as the disease progresses.

didn't it look like she was taking it to a gas station dumpster? I wonder how no one confronted or caught her doing that?
It is so sad. What is more sad, sometimes a relapse, especially under stressful events. Or some other addictive type habit is picked up. It seems so hard to treat. I hope that is not the case.

I saw the part about the woman who wouldn't let her kids hug her without taking a bath. My mother was almost like that, slightly different, but same sort of obsession with hand washing and all. I felt for the kids and the husband. People who live with the ones with that condition (untreated) suffer in ways that are hard to describe.
Yeah, puking in ziplock bags and saving it up in the closet to sneak it to the dump later really says a lot. Unfortunately, it is gross and disturbing that someone would be that obsessed. Hope she gets help. Sounds like a sad life.

but the ziplock bag/closet thing almost sounds like a psychologists field day. She was afraid her husband would smell it, but she kept a collection in her closet where he could have stumbled upon em?
This kind of reminds me of a major alcoholic hiding their empties.
From reading these threads, I hope this lady gets help FAR into the future

| 7. That's actually pretty sad. |

can you imagine how low her level of self-esteem must be for her to treat herself so poorly? To not even allow herself healthy nutrition? She needs some serious therapy, obviously. I wish her all the best, whoever she is. It sounds like she's doing better, which is a good thing. Doing a family intervention on TV must've been a trip. Not everyone has that "luxury" or exposure, which is maybe why it has had such positive results. Who knows? Interesting story, though. :hi:
