Nostalgia

When the seasons change I get nostalgic. I just smelled the leaves outside, which was wonderful, BUT, it made me feel sad. I hate that. This is going to sound just awful, but my childhood memories are mainly sad ones. My parents fought a lot, there were money issues. The holidays were stressful. School was so-so. Sometimes I hated to go, and other times I hated to come home. My siblings have similar feelings about growing up, so I know my perception is not askew. I know a lot of the way I feel about things, stems from that. I need to change that, but this must be seriously embedded in my head, because not even speaking to someone professional has helped. Not saying I walk around with a chip on my shoulder, or depressed. We do lots of fun stuff with our kids, of which I enjoy. It's just this sad feeling that won't go away. Darn leaves!

3. Hey...this time of year makes a lot of people reflect...and can..

...cause sadness. That can be natural, to an extent, I think.

There is a lot of beauty to this season, too...

I try to remember that when I'm feeling down.

from my kitchen window, you can see the leaves swirling, and of course their wonderful smell. I just wish I could have happier memories. The one thing I can do is make sure there are happy memories for my kiddos.

5. I graduated college in 1976 and, in the fall of 1977, I found myself depressed when

it was time for school to start, and school (college especially)was the most fun I ever had. Every September, for quite a few years, I was depressed. Fast forward 20 years: on Labor Day 1995 we learned that my 29 year old baby brother had been murdered. Four years later, on the Monday after Labor day, my mother died after a lengthy, miserable illness.

Late August/early September is now a somewhat sad time for me. Too many bad memories.

I can certainly see why it would be sad for you. Having to go through what you did is bad enough, but when several things happen together , it's even harder. Have you ever heard the song "wake me up, when september ends" by Greenday?

My mom was diagnosed in late Aug with her cancer. I was expecting baby number 2 that fall, and my son started school. There was so many emotions. People must of thought I was crazy, because I walked around crying for weeks. The song from green day reminds me of it.

I hope time will allow you to be not so sad at that time of year.

8. Thanks, but sometimes a brief period of sadness is good.....

I need to be reminded occasionally because, in general, I'm very blessed and happy. In the meantime, I still find myself strongly excited about crisp mornings in early spring, Indian summer in late fall, and freezing winter nights when wearing long-johns, eating soup, and snuggling is not just allowable, its mandatory.

A little sad in early September is a good reminder of how rich life has been to me during the rest of the year.

After the election, early November is gonna be a "special" time of year for me-at least for awhile...
