Is It Weird For A Single Guy To Have A Cat?

I mean, I usually associate cats with more of a single woman living alone in an apartment than with a single guy living alone in an apartment.

But the apartment I could be moving into won't let me have a dog - just a cat because the previous tennent had cats.

So, is it socially acceptable for a guy to have a kitty?

I've always had a cat around, even though I'm married now, when I was "single" there was always a cat around. Of course being a cat magnet helps they just found me. If you like them and want one by all means get one.

It should be obvious that cats fit into the "swingin' single guy" lifestyle better than dogs do. You can leave 'em with a bowl of food and some water, and be gone for the weekend. Just TRY that with a dog.

Also, bring the cat to a park with a book. Can you say chick magnet? (The cat, not the book!)

I brought one of my cats to the park (wearing a harness and leash..she's an indoor cat except on these rare occasions). Not only does the cat love it but oh man women FLOCKED to me...it was surreal. Nearly every woman in the park came by to pet my cat and thought the harness and leash were the cutest thing ever. Now, if only I were single! Another of those "If I knew then what I know now..." moments. Seriously, this could have been a scene in a movie, three or four women crowded around me and my cat...

I've always had at least one cat. Now that I'm married we have several. Most women I've met think that a single guy with a cat is a good sign that he's not an insensitive jerk.

But don't get a cat just because of the landlord's policy. Get one because you want a companion.

12. One of the big problems for a woman with

a cat, is that the men can get competative. They can try are re-set the rules for the cat.
If a single man owns a cat, that is healthy well looked after and content is can show that they can care for something else.
It shows responsability, they respect independance and are confident in their manliness enough not feel that they need to look manly to attract a woman.
It will also mean that cat loving women do not have to negoitate to have a cat when they set up home with them.

I like dogs too and would like to have both, but if you lead a busy life a cat is better. Especially in an appartment.

bloom with attention, same as a person's.

1. Clean the litter box every day

3. Kitty game for at least 15 minutes every day (a feather on a string
works well)
4. Talk to your cat asthough you were talking to a person
5. Read some books on cats. They are a lot more interesting than

Get a cat at the local shelter. It is life changing to have a cat in your life. You may want to get a brother or sister for your feline at some point - they love the company.

I've never trusted men who didn't like cats.

I've always thought that people who don't like cats have control issues, and I don't trust them to respect my independence. A man with a cat is one sign of a man who doesn't need to dominate.

And, on a lighter note, a cat in the house will surely delight your female visitors. I saw this first hand on the 4th; both my sons brought dates to our bbq, and the girls spent the afternoon gushing over my tom and serving his every need for attention.

NO, NO, NO, kittylovers! Turn off the flamethrowers! I was just being my usual, insensitive, smarmy self -- I LIKE kitties! I LIKE doggies! I've LIVED with kitties and doggies (and squirrels and hamsters and birds and children and other adorable small furry woodland creatures and more than a few cockroaches) and we ALL got along just fine! Really!

And I see nothing wrong with a single guy having one (or two) around to share their life with. I recommend German Shepherds for keeping your feet warm at night and eating your collector's copy of Steal This Book and Siamese for sitting on your head at two in the morning and leaving furballs on the kitchen floor.

I am allergic, and can't stand people letting animals deficate in a corner of their living room. I have a feeling some of these posters hate the word "pet" and prefer "animal companion" as some of my friends refer to the filthy beasts stinking up their homes.

at least one Robert Crais novel. He has a super-macho bad-ass main character in his series of novels who has a very cool cat as a pet.

get a cat or two....remember to get them neutered (especially if they are males -- those guys love to spray) but you couldn't ask for better housemates than a cat or two. When I grow up I am going to have a cat farm and just hang out and play with the critters all day long. Til then I have to be satisfied with the half dozen at home.

single or not. A cat can be a great companion, they're much easier to manage than dogs, especially if you work all day, and girls will love a guy who loves his cat!:D

If you're at work all day, you might consider having two, so they won't be bored and lonely. More landlords accept tenants with cats than dogs because cats are quieter and supposedly less destructive. Just be sure you invest in a scratching post. Good luck!:-)

make sure that they get along. If it was me, I would choose two from a shelter that are already buddies. I'd also avoid getting tiny kittens, although they're adorable, if they're going to have to spend any amount of time alone. 38. Adopt older cats

they require less constant attention. We just adopted two neutered males-ages 6 and 7-and it's the best thing we ever did. Older cats also don't get adopted in shelters-people tend to gravitate toward the kittens.

It is not weird for men to have cats-those that think it's not manly are insecure with their manhood to begin with.
