| I turned in my two week notice at work today |
|
early this morning. I got tired of doing the job that two people used to do, and not getting any compensation for it. Now I'm feeling dumb as hell, because not having a paycheck is NO compensation. What a dumbo. My emotions got the better of me. I've worked there 2 1/2 years. I'm a schmuck. At least I'll have the satisfaction of knowing that someone else who needs a job will get mine.
end of self-serving rant.

Why don't you invent a fancy lie to rescind it before it's too late?
Say you had a job lined up but it fell through. Anything. Or god only knows how long it will take you to climb out of the convenience store basement.

I have hope of a better future! I'm one of the (soon to be newly) unemployed! No discouragement here!
Actually, it in a way seems like the time to go look for something else.

|
go back and see if you can rescind the resignation. Well, go ahead and tell a small lie - like you had a fight with your wife/cat/parrot (you pick) that morning.
Trust me, a job is a good thing to have nowadays.

I really think I wouldn't have done it unless something was telling me I had to. The load was getting pretty heavy to carry, and I'm not a springy chicken.

I understand. Hey, there is still something you can do to help yourself:
Do not burn ANY bridges. Be a pleasant, level-headed, productive employee up until the very last MINUTE you are there. And after you leave, just keep your mouth shut.
Do those things, and you'll find another job easy.

Fuck it, you quit, good for you. You now have plenty of time to find a new, better job.
To be or not to be, and all that jazz.

I quit a job for the same reasons. Yeah, it's maybe a bad time, but, what the hell?
Could you look into attending grad school/re-training during this time-tool up for when Bush gets kicked out of the WH?

|
and you won't end up homeless-go for something new. Since there are no workers' rights in America, I am sure it did suck badly.
See if you can COBRA, and look for part-time work until you get your act together.
Really bad jobs destroy the spirit and mind. Why put yourself through that?
If you're single w/o kids, then go for it.

| 11. Call a manager or someone TONIGHT at their house |
|
and plead temporary insanity!!!!!!!
I am serious!
And take in a pile of news articles (just today's will do) on the economy and talk it up like just the stress and horror about people losing jobs just caused you to want to relieve the stress of worrying and ending it the "cliff hanger" feeling that you would be next.
Or something.........man............ Do you have 6 mos to a year to FIND another job? no unemployment for you.
do you know that there are 500 people who would take your job TODAY? That they have boxes of resumes to go through? And it doesn't matter if your job was at McD's.
Just the fact that you quit is evidence of temp. insanity. The FASTER you move, the better chance you have to turn this around........

| 12. I walked off the job once |
|
and it ended up changing my entire life for the better-- it forced me to take stock, get away from all the unnecessary crap, and it even opened up the opportunity for me to move to a new state and begin again. It was a move I should have made six years earlier, but I didn't ever have the nerve until it reached the final breaking point.
So now that it's happening to you, keep your eyes, ears, and heart open, and take advantage of whatever comes your way. No regrets, and carpae diem!

|
(I always give notice), but it was the best thing he did-
most places are so worried about being sued if they give a bad ref on a former employee, they won't have the balls to say anything bad.
And he got another job right away.
In fact, he not only walked, he THREW his name tag in the boss' face!

and there are those telling him to beg for the job back.. maybe he does work that's very much in demand....maybe if he stayed another day he would have gotten sick...maybe it was unbearable....
Rabbit - you can temp while looking for something else, or go into your own business...or travel by thumb...
I wish you luck and that you find your highest good in your quest.

|
jobs without another lined up I can only hope you have options. Back in the goold ole days of the 80's I had no problem getting another job through temp agencies. I was an office worker and jobs were easy to have back then. These days you need a degree to answer the phone. I have more experience in my little finger than most of these graduates who get recepitionist jobs for lousy pay and no future. Take a look at my portfolio...it's got spiderwebs and lint. Lots of luck, when one door closes another opens. Don't feel discouraged, it'll pass and you'll get hired again. Cheers! Work's over, time for a brew!

If you really needed to quit, good for you. I don't know what you do or how the job market is in your area or what kind of lifestyle and bills go along with it so I don't know how practical of a choice it was. Devote yourself to finding a better job or take one that helps pay the bills if you cannot find one right away. Regardless, I know how an unhappy work situation can affect people. I know that if I could quit my job, it would help me immensely.

ZERO - I refused many years ago to use credit cards (I know, unamerican) because I got sick of the monster interest payments. Paid everything off over time, and don't owe a damn thing except the monthly rental and electric. Own three vehicles. May have to sell them off one by one for funds.
