7. my job

I'm a civil servant, which is a compromise I made when my REAL plans didn't work out. After too much underemployment I conceded to my wife's demands and took the civil service test. When I got the job I made a pledge to my wife that I would stick with it no matter how awful it was. I kept that promise, and I've been there for 19 years.

I still remember the lean times, and I know you don't just quit a job when people are counting on you, but I've wanted to many times.

We've been saving for early retirement, so I'm planning on getting out within four years.

Avoid civil service work if you possibly can!
