Okay, DU, I need some advice.

My across the streeth neighbors are the neighbors from hell. She is a single mom, living with her boyfriend and her two sons and one of the teenage sons' friends.

The teenagers are slugs. They park all over the street, never in the driveway, and drink and get high all day. Okay, so mom is an idiot, but there's more.

The teenagers are making drug deals in the street just about every day. I don't think mom is aware of this, but she is aware of the underage drinking. They leave their empties all over the street, and last night there were a ton in my yard, along with empty cigarette packs.

Which promptly landed back in her yard, but I digress.

Is there a solution to this? Mom won't listen about the teenagers and their loud music and partying, so we have been reduced to calling the cops, but a bunch of us moms really, really want the drug sales to stop, and the teenagers to find somewhere else to go. Is there a way to do this? A practical way?

2. It worries me though.

Because they know, that WE know. We've been staring at the cars to get the license plates of the dealers, so they know.

In fact, the amazing person who cleans my house ran outside today to get the number off the car because it was a different car. :rofl:

I just don't want any retaliation, especially since BabyMidlo plays outside all the time.

3. I still think the cops are your best choice.......

Unless....

You and the other moms get together, and hire a private eye to get the hard evidence needed to nail these guys..........

But that would cost money....... :shrug:

It might be worth it in the long run, though.....

10. Well, in all fairness, we didn't start out trying to the license

plates. We just started noticing when this teenager moved in with mom (after graduating from high school in NJ and having dad send him down here because he couldn't handle him :eyes:) that there was an awful lot of activity; a lot of parties, etc.

My friend who lives next door to them noticed the drug deals about 5 months ago when she was outside teaching the little kids how to double dutch, and since then, we've been trying to catch them in the act. To no avail.

4. Keep calling the police - and make sure you aren't the only one - have the other neighbors do it too

More wasted lives. Poor kids.

your only practical recourse is the police. If you can get a group of neighbors together and go to them, you might get better results.

Unfortunately, in most cases, something actually has to actively be happening for the police to do much. However, you might be able to get them to keep a close eye on the neighborhood and hopefully they can catch these kids in the act.

8. I would call the non-emergency number to the local police dept and....

perhaps you can schedule a meeting between an officer and a few other neighbors and sit down and explain the situation and see what your options are. Good luck with this and keep us posted. This situation really sucks.

11. One of my friends is a cop in this county and he says that

the only thing we can do is to call and let the cops try to catch them in the act.

There just isn't enough manpower to station a cop outside their house 24/7.

I'm so pissed at the mom though, she has a younger son and she needs to be protecting him from this. The younger son hates the situation so much that he spends all his time in his bedroom because he can't stand the smoke. That's not right. Not at all.

20. I wouldn't rely on just the advice of that one friend....

I am 99% positive that the narcotics division in your area would be interested in knowing that drug deals were occuring across the street from you and mere yards away from where children play. I don't expect a cop to be placed outside 24/7 but if a strong relationship isn't established between your community and the local police force, this situation is only going to get worse.

12. Start a Neighborhood Watch

Then get a guard dog to protect your family. I'm partial to Pit Bull's, but a German Shepard or a Mastiff will do the trick. Also, contact your Chief of Police, City Manager, Mayor and city council person (all of your neighbors should do the same) about the problem.

22. Since the cops can't get the manpower to act quickly enough

and apparently, can't be bothered with license plate numbers, call the DA, the Assistant DA, and do it several times. If this were going on in my neighborhood, I would not tolerate it one minute.

24. Update: For those who might be interested.

I was getting a latte at the neighborhood coffee place and there is a police station next door. There was a nice young policeman sitting in his patrol car in the parking lot filling out his reports or whatever it is that they report.

I pulled up, rolled down my window, explained everything and he said that he would call it in to increase the police presence on the street. I told him when the deals were going down and he said they would possibly stake someone at the corner!

I just want this to go away. I don't relish having drug deals made practically at my mailbox.
