Happened 3 months after I got the car. I was driving on the freeway, and a dog wandered out into the road. I slowed to avoid hitting it (extremely light traffic in that area, thank God), but while I avoided the dog, I was rear-ended by a Dodge Ram pick-up!

Nearly $9,000 damage. The other driver's insurance company wanted to total the car, but I talked them into paying for the repairs. The really cool thing was, neither me nor MrSG was hurt much (and thank goodness, the other driver and her two children weren't hurt either). And, ugly as the car looked, it still drove fine. Didn't get pushed out of alignment, or anything. The worst thing was feeling really embarassed at the way people looked at us after we were able to resume our trip.

Just prior to buying this car, I had a Nissan Sentra, and while I liked that car, I absolutely shudder to think about what could have happened to us had we been hit while driving that car!

The body shop I took it to was fabulous. Can't even tell it was so badly damaged.

Just turned over 100,000 miles. The missus bought it new before she met me, and drove it sparingly until I bought her a station wagon in 2002. Since that time, I've been driving the Nova and have put more than half of the mileage on it -- in just 4-1/2 years. It will likely be the first car our 16-year old drives.

122. First I had no headlights.

I drove home from a gig by holding the brights switch in. Then the headlights came on, but I had no dash lights, and the brights wouldn't remain on unless I held the switch in. I currently have no dash lights.

I took it in for service immediately after the headlights went out, but the mechanic said he couldn't find anything wrong with it. A friend of mine mentioned that he had the same problem with his old Volvo.

I've been using the seat warmers lately. Could that be making lights short out?

123. a common problem with the 93's

The main Headlight relay plug is likely bad. The relay on the 93's are located behind the center console, under the dual air-vents. The relay itself is probably still good, what happens is the relay gets hot and literally melts the plastic around the plug. This bad connection is probably what's causing the problems. Any good mechanic should be able to easily remove the plug and re-attach the wire to the relay. This relay also controls the current to the dimmer switch, so it's my guess this is why your dash lights are out too.

I found a place in the Bay Area that mixes paint to factory specs. That's where I got the paint for the dash.

The doors are the optimal place for the midrange speakers, but I just couldn't bear to cut fresh-from-the-factory panels, and it'd fuck up the originality. Anyway, I like the challenge of designing and building new speaker enclosures. :7

His favorite was a '67 Grand Prix convertable that he bought from a junk yard.

Both of us put in a lot of time and sweat on that car, and it was 'technically' my first car (for a few months, anyway), until my older sis needed it more.

Its only real weakness is the electrical system.
It has piddled upon me a few times with stuff like alternator shorts and inoperative power window motors.
Its not spectacular. But it was cheap at $2K and reasonable economical with 28-29 mpg if I hold the speed at and below 65 with cruise control.
And I can sustain it with parts scavenged from the junk yard.
I have 125K on the clock and hope to double it.
It is genuinely an old ladies car though.
An aunt left it as part of her estate. And the Century is number one with unmarried ladies over 65.

We took a week to ride from the Dallas area out to the Smokies....id the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Dragon (4 times!) and a host of other great roads throughout eastern TN/western NC.

We get pretty much a year round season in north Texas, if you don't mind some chilly rides in January and February. Not quite as balmy as Florida, but livable.

I really want to do Daytona, just to say I've done it (have done layovers there during bike week), but I don't want to do it unless I have the time to ride there and back.

172. Daytona Bike Week is always a blast

I've going since the mid 60s. It is a three or four hour ride from where I live. The past few years it has become an absolute mob scene. Traffic is a nightmare. I've found some of the outlaying communities have great Bike Week activities going on and sometimes it is better than making the ride to Beach Street or Main Street.

I actually enjoy Biketober Fest more. It is in October and there is always less of a crowd. By then most of our northern friends have parked their bikes for the winter. Biketober Fest has all the same vendors but less traffic.

I used to ride a lot when I was stationed out in El Paso. I loved the area. You could ride to California or Colorado in no time at all. The wife and I have ridden through Texas on our way to New Mexico several times.

This is my third Grand Am. It was a great deal but there seems to be more road noise inside than I remember the other two having. I traded in my 1993 Grand Am 4 dr and got my new 2002 for the same price I paid for the the 1993 ten years ago. It's a nice roomy car for the money. Grand Ams always were. Wish they hadn't stopped making them.(This is not a pic of my actual car. I bought mine new.)

If it's just me and the weather permits, mostly for commuting use, my '99 Harley 883c Sportster, 50mpg+ on the highway, which is mostly where I ride it. This pic is my actual bike.



I have a '95 Lincoln Mark VIII for most other trips, wife and kid along etc. and commuting when the weather doesn't lend itself to riding the bike. A luxury muscle car that gets about 25-27 mpg highway. This is a pic from the net, mine is deep emerald green.




If I need to haul or tow, or get somewhere in the snow or offroad, I have a 2000 Ford F-150 4x4 offroad supercab. About 13-15 mpg :( Stays parked until needed these days.Mine is identical to this one except I don't have the rollbars.
