| 5. what is the name of the band that takes classic rock songs |
|
like 'boys of summer' and plays 'em punk rock style?
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts biggest chart success came with covers of 'I Love RnR' and 'Crimson and Clover.'

Although I don't think the recent remake of "Boys Of Summer" was one of theirs.

| 6. Alien Ant Farm's "Smooth Criminal" |
|
I remember that one from right when I was starting college. They took a nu-metal version of Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal" to #1 as (I think) their first single, but in doing so they basically pegged their destiny as a one-hit wonder band. They may have had some minor follow-up hits (in fact, I remember hearing one follow-up single that actually sounded O.K.) but I don't think they ever had (or likely ever will) chart anything else approaching a big hit.
Oh yeah, an older band I can think of is Blue Swede. They were a two-hit wonder, but both of their hits were covers: a #1 cover of B.J. Thomas's "Hooked on a Feeling" (it's the mid-seventies version with the "ooga-chaka"s!) and another Top Ten with a cover of the Association's "Never My Love." They also released a cover that was a medley of Deep Purple's "Hush" and Tommy James's "I'm Alive" but it wasn't much of a hit.
Anyway, those are just a couple I thought of...

| 9. Perhaps you're thinking of Alien Ant Farm's "Movies"? |
|
My band almost added that one to our playlist, but we decided against it. Great song, though.
