I just got off the phone with a friend of mine.. She's in her mid 60's. She's a retired school teacher and her husband retired a while back.

Her mother-in-law just passed away last week, so she and her husband went down to Alabama for the services. They had a family reunion of sorts over the weekend, and flew back Tuesday.. Yesterday morning, Henry sat down to breakfast and just died..

He was being treated for high blood pressure, but his heart was ok. They are waiting for the autopsy report..

They had 2 children who died as well. A son died of leukemia at age 3 and another one was killed in a hit and run when he was 10 (they never caught the guy who hit him and left him in the road)

His mother was 104, and went to the mall the morning she died, and her son was 64 ..:( He never got to collect a single SS check )

I was so sad when she called me, but she said she was at peace with it..and to Live every minute.:(

I don't know which is worse..sudden shocking loss or death as a result of illness..

Sorry for your friend's and your loss.

Yes...life is only temporary and we spend our whole life forgetting that

4. While it is never easy

I really think that, sometimes, at least if we have a chance to say goodbye, it may be easier than a sudden death. I have watched both unfold. My grandmother died slowly of Alzheimer's. Now that is a cruel death, and we had begun to pray for an end to her suffering (and to ours). When it came, it was a relief.

With my dad, we had only 1 week to prepare, but it was sufficient to assure each other, all around, of our love.

In July, when my niece's soul mate was taken very, very suddenly, she was away for her annual "girl's" weekend, and her 17-year-old son took the call. It has been an absolute nightmare. I doubt that any of us will soon bring any comfort to either she or her son, or her 12- year-old daughter.

2. Very sad, sorry to hear the news...

She's absolutely right, we should live every day as if it would be our last. We take far too much time worrying about trivialities, instead of realizing that we are only here for a short time. Your friend certainly has my respect for her strength and her life philosophy. Hugs to you and to her.

3. Yup. live EVERY MOMENT as if it's your last. Enjoy Life, don't work

too hard, and play play play play play a LOT.

Travel, find love, cuddle kittens and puppies and squishy animals and be nice to everyone.

And smile. And laugh.

Friend of mine found out last week he has a year to live; inoperable, terminal cancer.

He's 37.
