| I'm going to the Bruce Springsteen concert! |
|
A few years ago I made it a goal to see Bruce in concert before I die. Of course, since I'm 20 and he's in his 60s, a lot of people were skeptically saying, "Rocky, shouldn't your goal be to see Bruce before *he* dies?"
Well friends, that distinction means nothing now, because yesterday I scored myself a floor ticket to the Boss concert here in Boston this November! Woo hoo! I just hope I can make it there without passing out from excitement on the T :)

He and the E Streeters were in excellent form on the Today show yesterday. My guess is Bruce will have a lot to say.

I was *this* close to the catwalk and more than once when Bono was in the spotlight it was shining on me too. My ears rang for two days afterwards :)

I think he's only in his fifties. :-)
I've seen him numerous times over the years and his shows are entertaining.
Have fun!

even though the guys are getting up there in years, they still at least as of my last concert, on The Rising tour, can still show them young whippersnappers a thing or three about putting on one kick -ass rock and roll show. (Bruce just turned 58 by the way) . Was a little concerned about Clarence on TV yesterday, who had some moments of not sounding so good, and he IS in his 60's I believe. Hope he's still got the energy to blow that horn throughout a whole show for a whole tour. I'm 56, and its getting harder for me. I first saw them fall of '75, right after Born to Run came out, 4 other times over the years (wish it had been a lot more than that but lucky to have at least seen that many I guess) plus Bruce solo acoustic once , the only time he's ever played here in N.M. that I'm aware of. I'm so very proud of what he said on the Today Show yesterday too. At least one bright moment of bustin on through the media blockade on whats really happening to civil liberties etc. He talked briefly about that in Phoenix last time too, in a song introduction, about how civil liberties disappear gradually and imperceptibly, and that when the mass of people finally notice, its usually too late. And he talked about how keeping aware of what's going on is "not just your right, but your duty and responsibility, when you're... born in the U.S.A." and then ripped into a thunderous version of that song. I just hope he comes at least as close as Phoenix (8 hr drive) or Denver (6 1/2) cause I'll be there if I can get tickets. So far, closest show is L.A. and just can't swing that. Good to see that a younger person is excited about seeing him. Have a GREAT time, I know you will.

| 17. My history with Bruce.... |
|
in 75 I was living in LA trying to become an actor, comedian.lanscaper and succeeding at none of them. I was from Sac originally and moved there with my wife and newborn baby.
I had no friends, no family no nothing and living on 3rd st in Pomona. The radio (KRQR) was my only friend. One night I was listening and they were giving away tickets to a show by an artist I had never heard. Bruce Springsteen. I called in and won two tickets to his show at the Roxy in LA. At the time I had never heard one second of his music.
That week he was on the cover of TIME and NEWSWEEK as well as all the papers. "The New Dylan" (yeah right I thought) and this huge hype. Really I thought I was going to hate it. I hate hype and that just turned me off so much, I thought "yeah this is going to suck big time'.
Within about one minute of "Thunder Road" I was hooked. Here was a guy singing about my life. He danced on my table. He jumped off the amps, he crowd surfed. He slid across the stage. Quite simply the best performance I had ever seen.
I called my Sac friends and told them to go to the show later that week in Sacramento. They all were like me, hating the hype, so they did not go.
As for me, I packed up my stuff, my wife and kids and moved back to Sac in time to go to the show. Before the show he was out front and nobody recognized him. He was signing autographs and chatting with those that did. The place was less than half full, but he played an incredible show. Longer and bigger.
Since then I saw him everytime he came out the bay Area. The 78 show posted above was just too much. Finally all my friends came out to that one. And they were totally blown away by it. During "Prove It All Night" during the guitar solo Brucs is crowd surfing.
I saw "the River" tour. Both legs of the Born In The USA tour. Tunnel tour ( After three Grateful Dead shows in a row) Ghost of Tom Joad Tour. His solo tour. The Bridge School appearance. The reunion tour (not my favorite), The Rising tour (incredible), Devils and Dust tour (one guy, guitar and piano and 20,000 people were transfixed) and a couple of years ago 2 shows (one at Jazzfest) with the Seeger Sessions band. When he played My City iN Ruin at jazzfest, I think it might have been the single most incredible moment I have ever seen. EVERYONE was weeping.

enjoy! I'd love to see Bruce in concert, too. One of the very few I'd bother with. Was just watching his old 'Dancing in the Dark' b/w vid from way back. What a presense he has! Man, he is so damned natural and joyful, and so comfortable in his own skin - it's a real treat to set my eyes on him perform.
