| Tell Me Why Your State Is Better Than My State? |
|
Of course, this will be hard considering my state is the great state of New York.
Basically, we have everything that every other state has, plus we got attitude, baby!
So put up or shut up.

Plus we have beautiful beaches, sensible gun laws, amazing mountains and the longest continuous stretch of the Appalachian Trail.
The wineries in VA are amazing, UVA is a good football school, and we have a very level-headed governor.
I love VA.

Delaware sucks.

Actually, you would live in a cool state if they didn't have so many shady corporations there who leech off the public. Delaware is like it's own little offshore tax haven.
Sorry, not better than NY.

Delaware has to attract business just like anyone else. Would you prefer we just let those companies go to Bermuda instead? And there are other states out there that have the same benefits including New Hampshire and Oregon.
We are doing nothing that isn't legal and keeps these corporation tax dollars here in America.
And on an edit note: Next time you buy a pack of smokes remember in Delaware that's about 3 packs.

With your logic, Minnesota should be one gigantic oddly-shaped ghost town. Yet it isn't. Using your Corporate Logic(tm), explain why Minnesota isn't.
The idea of profit above all else is just wrong. It helps a small handful while pissing on everybody else, or hadn't you noticed?
And any American corporation that bases itself outside the US in order to avoid paying JUST taxes is a traitorous entity. They want all the benefits America offers without paying a damn penny for them. That sure as hell makes them something disgusting, "traitor" seems to fit nicely as they're putting themselves above the country that's nice enough to house them in.

:wow:
Our forefathers ditched England because of taxes. Except the taxes went to the King's pocket.
Today, our taxes go to any number of needed services. Many of which are worthwhile. I want those services supported.
We should all pay our fair share.

Boring. That pretty much sums up DE.
Plus, the drivers in DE must be half asleep. Very frustrating when you are trying to catch a Ferry from Lewes to Cape May, only to be stuck by some country-bumpkin doing 10 mph under the limit.
The only good thing about Wilmington is that it's 20 miles from Philly.
OK, I will give you one thing. I love your license plates. Black and white! Did I say "boring" yet?

Aside from the seacoast and the mountains and the lakes and the wonderful people, Maine has...drum roll...
A Democratic Governor, a Democratic House (bless you Maine Mary) and a Democratic State Senate!!! Throw in 2 Democratic Congressmen and you have a pretty darn good place. (And we're working on the Senators.)

You don't even need a bumpersticker in DC to make a political statement. The license plate says it all:

We have some kick ass Dems who are showing the rest of the party what fighting for justice is all about. Many of these people have put their political careers on the line (and some will lose next time around) to fight the good fight.
And, we're headed back to the D column. Give us a few years, and then you'll actually want to elect Texans to national office again. Dunnam or Villareal for President anyone? :-)

I have the political equivalent of the world's biggest crush on Richard Raymond after seeing him at the House Redistricting committee hearings.
And amen on Villareal. I was there at the end of the regular session the night the House voted and his remarks that night touched me. He sounded so tired and so disappointed and you just wanted to hug him and tell him it was all going to be ok. :-) Can't remember the last time I saw a pol display so much quiet emotion. It was stunning.

The cost of living is lower too. But yours is a great state, which I have recently crossed 4 times enjoying the scenery. So don't be too mean in reply and ruin my favorable impression of New Yorkers.

I once had my drivers license taken away from me in South Carolina when I covered a football game at the Citadel. I tried to get into a bar and the guy said 'no you can't, you're not 21' and took my license and wouldn't give it back!
It wasn't a fake ID, it was my actual license and I was 20 at the time. I figured he'd give me a break. But I said 'I'm leaving, please give me back my license.' and he just stood there looking at me.
South Carolina sucks.

Um, LOL, I am not sure exactly why I said that.
But in Jersey, although we're overpopulated (which is a big problem), we have TWO Dem senators and a Dem governor. Being relatively free from wingnuts, we are free to go about our day to day life knowing that our civil servants aren't completely screwing us every day. We are free to devote our time to music and laughter and malls. ;-)
We get the perk of being right next to the greatest city in the world, NYC! And we can leave when it gets too busy and ridiculous. Our smokers, for example, can still smoke in a smoking section of a restaurant.

now that Rudy Giuliani isn't giving press conferences
We've also got 2 Dem Senators, 2 Reps with (D) after their name (one is a serious DINO), and a Dem legislature which, like the Texas Dems, seems to have grown a set recently.
Hawaiian has been an official language alongside English since 1978. You should have seen the school system trying to figure out how to do "No Child Left Behind" testing at the Hawaiian-language immersion schools!
It is possible to choose between about fifteen varieties of ethnic food in Honolulu, including Puerto Rican! Bear in mind that the city proper doesn't even have the population of Staten Island.
There are actually several different varieties of "Hawaiian music", including slack-key, in which the guitar is detuned (originally, 'tis said, to suit the voices of particular singers), and another sung in a peculiarly haunting falsetto. Meanwhile, hula is considered not light entertainment, but a serious competitive sport, with even keiki (kids') competitions broadcast statewide.
Finally, if we must have snow, we can always go up to the observatories on the Big Island (Mauna Kea means "white mountain"). Not bad for a place that would barely make a decent-size New England state, in both area (around 6000 sq. mi. of land) and population (around 1.2 million)!
