If, like the link stated, you use the concentrated volitile oil to constitute 1% of your total diet on a regular basis. I don't know even Southerners who ever did that.
Sassafras has some wonderful medicinal properties, and its medicinal use is generally very safe. Kicks the hell out of menstrual cramps.
Most of those type of studies have an interest in promoting expensive, FDA-approved medicines and making people who are interested in alternative medicines afraid, very afraid.

Sassafras tea was a staple in our house. I think I'll try to find some, sounds good. Haven't have a cup in years. I am a tea drinker and Earl Grey is my favorite although I use Red Rose black for the morning kick. Picky about Earl Grey brands, Stash is pretty good. Constant Comment is good but hard to find in my neck of the woods.

|
I had to start drinking it when I went off coffee for a year. The stronger the green tea, the better. For a real treat, put four bags in a bottle of Aquafina and let it sit for an hour. I use Stash brand almost exclusively cuz it makes "green", not "amber" tea.

Called that because the tea-leaves are hand-rolled into little balls, and they "explode" back to full size when the hot water hits them.
I have no source, just had some at my parent's last thanksgiving, it was a 1 year old jar of these little bb-sized balls and it tasted great. Sort of half-way between a green and a black tea.

It's a wonderful black tea w/ rose petals. Completely mood altering in a positive way. I can't find it anywhere in the states though. But occasionally I will run across something similar in certain tea shops.
With scones and clotted cream, of course!
