Before I could even measure the concept of time, my mom was able to explain to me the idea of an hour or a half hour by referring to Sesame Street. One time when we were going to fly down to Florida, a two hour flight, my mom told me it would be about "two Sesame Streets or four Mr. Rogers" until we get to Florida.

I remember seeing that on our black and white TV in the flat we lived in from 1953-1955, when I was 3-4 years old.

I remember the program opened with Miss Frances singing these words (approximately)

I'm your school bell ding dong ding
Boys and girls all hear me ring.
(Two more verses I don't remember)
Ding dong ding dong ding.

Just her singing is all I can remember; I don't remember any other part of any of her programs.

I think the first TV show I remember is one of the kids' shows that were common at that time, not only Ding Dong School but also Howdy Doody Time, Winky Dink, and Hopalong Cassidy.

channel while that was on. This was when we had our first TV actually in our house. I had watched other things at my grandparent's house, especially Saturday morning kid stuff.

My mom did explain to me why the Army/McCarthy hearings were so important, even though I was too young to really understand it.
