7. Golden Retriever

I had mine for 8 years growing up (Age 5 to 13 when she passed).

I think I heard her growl once--once--at another dog. Other than that, just the absolutely friendliest, most loving, sweetest, loyal dog imaginable. Barked only when she wanted to go inside or outside. She did shed a lot, though, but I didn't mind.

My little bugger now? A hyper to the extreme Yorkie Poo whose not shy to occasionally have his little temper tantrums. But I've got to love him anyways.

handful as a puppy but has mellowed considerably. All are sweet-natured, though they shed all over the place. She's been trying to sell her house for a year, and despite her best efforts to keep the floor clean, the dog hair has been mentioned by more than one prospective buyer.

19. I'm on my second beagle for just this reason.

They are loveable and gentle, and can be trusted around anyone--children, seniors. When I was fostering kittens, they had a habit of trying to nurse on my beagle, because she was so good with 'em. And she'd let 'em--but I tried to prevent it, because I wasn't sure she'd be so patient once she got to feel those little kitten teeth!!

I've always had mongrels. My present sweetie looks like a border collie/Tibetan terrier cross, though goddess knows what she really is. I suspect she's the results of several generations of unsafe dog sex. I don't have a digital camera, but she looks a lot like this:

I've never paid more than the Humane Society adoption fee for a dog, and there hasn't been a mean one in the bunch.

I just think of all the dogs put down while people are paying tons of money for a pure breed. There are plenty of full breeds out there that need to be rescued. And plenty of mixed breeds too!! They can make the best dogs!

My little mutt is as lovable as any dog I've ever known or owned. She loves people in general and kids in particular. She has never shown any agression toward a human and doesn't even bark at strangers if they come in the yard.
