| My dad has been in and out of the ER over the last week with |
|
shortness of breath and chest pains. They keep testing him and telling him it's not a heart attack and sending him home.
But I am still worried, since it was a heart attack that took mom. :(
So please pray or send out good vibes if you will. :)

We went through something like that with my mother and it turned out to be nothing critical so I will hope that your father gets the same sort of diagnosis.

| 2. He has asthma, so it might be related to that. The x-rays |
|
didn't show any clots or embolisms, so it's not that. But his EKG did come up different than his old ones, so there is something going on, but the enzyme tests are saying he hasn't had a heart attack.

| 3. My mother was exhibiting heart attack symptoms that fooled them all |
|
but the tests showed otherwise. They never did find anything seriously wrong with her heart although eventually her symptoms were linked to other manageable conditions. I'll keep a positive outlook for him.

| 5. That's definitely good that they're not showing any clots/embolisms |

My died almost died from a pulmonary embolism my freshman year of high school. :scared: We thought he was having a heart attack, too. Luckily he's fine now - I hope your dad will be OK too!

| 9. Good vibes to your dad, and a question. |

Did they consider he might be having panic attacks? I landed in the ER twice with the same symptoms, and the second time I was there, the doctor took time to ask me a bunch of questions. He figured out that I was having panic attacks, and had my regular doctor prescribe some meds for them, and I've been good ever since.

| 10. I had similar symptoms a few years ago -- may not be something similar, but |
|
the ER doctor believed it was GERD and gave me what he called "intravenous Pepcid," which worked on me in no time.
From what I'm reading here, it could be many things, but it's good news (probably) if they're telling him it's not a heart attack.
I'm sending good vibes, regardless. Keep us posted.

| 13. How's the air quality where you're at? |
|
Edited on Sat Nov-17-07 03:41 PM by Drunken Irishman
Chances are it probably isn't a heart attack. If he's been having pains like that for a week, things would have progressively gotten worse. It could be the poor air quality making it hard to breathe and giving him chest pains.
Good luck, though.
