Is it my imagination or has restaurant music become more obnoxious and loud?

I know that, right now, I am sounding like John "Hey, you punks, get off my lawn!" McCain (and I'm 49), but, tonight my daughter, hubby and I went to "Islands," an upscale burger (etc.) restaurant, and the pop music was so loud I couldn't hear what my family members were saying. I've never done this before, but I asked the hostess to turn down the music a little. It was turned down ever-so-slightly. I remember when one could enjoy music without loud televisions, playing loud music, competing with loud music. Maybe I just need a time out!
