My dog. I think I'll keep him.

I've calmed down after last week's dog freakout. I love my spirited dog and don't want to give him up. Here's the plan:

Doggy-daddy and I are going to split dog custody more equitably. He will hire a dog walker to come by and take him out during the day. I may do the same, or I may continue to come home at lunch.

Increase the dog's exercise schedule. That means increasing my exercise schedule. Not a bad idea if I intend to ever run than marathon anyway. Happily, the dog has really gotten the hang of heeling, so he's now a first-rate running partner. On weekends my husband takes him for long trail hikes, whereas I like to take him to the beach.

If necessary, talk to the vet about other ideas for calming him during separation.

1. If he is suffering from Separation Anxiety ...

The vet may put him on tranquilizers.

I forgot the details, how old is he again? I have found that once they hit 4-5 years old they calm down.

4. He just turned four

but I'm not holding my breath. He's a very active breed, a Braque du Bourbonnais.

I just had a puppy adopt me. I am in for some fun for the next four-five years because she is a chewer extraordinaire! The good thing is I have four dogs that love to play with her and they wear her out to the point of exhaustion. I know she is going to tear up some of my stuff but who could take this little girl down to the shelter?

Either she picked you or the other dogs picked her and stuffed her into that doghouse!

Either way, it is the will of the fates and that usually means a very special dog/human relationship.

It is a grace. It is good to accept grace, especially when it comes in shiny fur. :)

That's how my dog gets forgiven all his exasperating misdeeds, too.
