My baby is turning 5 tomorrow...sniffle...please feel bad for me....

Where did the time go? This little guy seems to be cruising right through life. I put him to bed tonight and sat and cried in the living room for 15 minutes. I feel as if I am being shoved into the next segment of my life and I'm just not ready, so I'll hang onto the doorknob for awhile. :( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-(

In 2 weeks my precious little darling baby will start (gasp) . . .
1st grade! Since he will be an only it just really hurts sometimes; BUT . . .

Every age has its charms. Now that he reads a little, he reads the books that were once my favorites to me; and we've discovered some wonderful new to me books.

Our favorites:
Four Pups and a Worm (this one cracks me up every time, my late father found it for us)
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
Bark, George (Jules Feiffer, no less--hilarious!)

When I get down about it, I just think of him reading Bark, George to me when I had the stomach flu recently. Now, when he no longer wants to sit on my lap . . .

26. Somebody gave him "My First Day of School" which I thought was a

good idea...until we read it. Talk about giving a child paranoia. It all ends well but the lead up to the climatic ending is enough to keep a Mommy from sending her boy off to school.

There is nothing better than cracking open a book with your child.

Are you talking about a cat, a dog, a horse, or a human?

If the first three, no big deal. If the last, well, they do grow up. My babies are teenagers now, which is really strange because they were just toddlers a year or two ago. We have a lot of their photos on the computer as rotating screensavers and wonder all the time how it was that our babies were kidnapped and replaced by the ones we have now.

27. He's a human, about to start kindergarten....sniffle....

One part of me is thinking" Yay, time to myself", the other part of me ist thinking,"why was I in such a hurry to get him to walk?" It's a cusp year for us. My daughter starts *gulp* high school next year, and I am wondering how they could be so old while I am still so young and innocent.;)

She's a great adult but I miss that tiny person I used to know too.

Looking back, those years of her babyhood seemed a lot longer than his did. She was the lucky one, because I was not as paranoid and overprotective as I seem to be now.;-) It's funny how so many people that I meet on DU have similar life situations.

Or gets married and you cant get to the wedding cause you've been laid off. THAT is frustrating. The Boss Lady and I finally got to see our sons video of his marriage last week. They were married in Dec. that will make you mad x( but ya know what? They come back...and they bring their children and ya get to do it all over again :)

12. Hey, don't feel bad, my son turned twelve in April

and it was just two weeks ago that he was born! (Well, that's what it feels like, anyway)! He was so cute when he was younger, I really miss that. He's in camp this week, his first camp ever, and boy am I ever missing him! So enjoy this age while you can, because it's going to go even faster from now on.

18. I just cried my way home

from taking my oldest back to KState. He is only an hour plus away but it is always hard. Cherish them, they are gone in a flash. Something to think about....my husband had a small tape recorder laying around and he secretly recorded my two when they were about 3 and 1 1/2. They were singing and talking. Last year he found the tape and made me a CD. It is precious to hear their small voices singing. My oldest sang every word of the National Anthem (I sang to them constantly so they knew everything) and I can just picture him singing it while standing like the "Tatuum of Livery". Ahhh, precious memories.

36. We did this. The tape starts out with his heartbeat on the ultrasound

thingy...then his first cries, then babbling, words, songs...That's a good idea, we'll have to switch it over...Now I am going to have to go find it...sniffle..and listen.

Big hugs! My oldest is almost 4, youngest 20 months. Each age is fun in and of itself, but it's difficult to get through ages that you'll never get back.

I cried myself to sleep on the eve of my daughter's first birthday- she was so independent I just knew she didn't need me anymore! Now she runs a Head Start pre-school and thanks to her, I'm a great-grandma re-living that first birthday trauma all over again! Wouldn't exchange those kinds of highs and lows for anything in the world though. Hang onto the doorknob - we're all there with you.

James' sister knocked his first tooth out last month....strictly by accident rough housing...and I wasn't even home. From what they tell me it was a rather traumatic experience. He was asleep with a tear stained face when I got home. I agree he looks very cute with the new gap in his smile.

Our son just turned 5, and begins All-Day Kindergarten this fall. It seems like yesterday I was holding him in one arm and holding his formula bottle in the other, both of us falling asleep in my chair together until my wife woke me up and we put him in his crib.

NOW: Sheesh. Getting him in bed is a chore, and finding room with all his power rangers and planes and cars in his bed. And he is actualy *mad* that he doesn't go to school in the summer. And he's grown an inch in the past 2 months.

and I swear he's gonna be a lawyer. I've never seen anyone stretch the definition of the truth so much and yet still remain just barely on this side of telling a lie. He's good at it. Oh boy, he's good at it. and then he smiles that devious little smile that says, "oh come on, you know I'm right."

Oh, and he does not have a door to his room, so no doorknob to hold on to, so I guess all we can do is go along for the ride...

It's his world, we just live in it with him.

(and don't get me started about his little sister...) :)
