| I have been on jury duty for the past week -- a murder trial. |
|
It was a pretty heinous crime and we found the guy guilty of second degree murder.
I am wiped out...

Anything you can talk about? Can you link a news story?
I hope you can get some rest. Sounds very physically, intellectually, and emotionally draining.

| 2. Nope -- no news story. The murder took place in September, 2006. |
|
Some guys had been drinking all day, got pretty drunk and one of the guys got belligerent and wanted to fight everyone. The belligerent one ended up fighting a couple of the guys and beat one of them up pretty good. At the end of the night, everyone had left but the belligerent guy and the guy who got beat up. They fought again, but this time the guy who had been belligerent ended up with a broken jaw, his lip splayed open, his ear practically cut in half, a broken orbital bone around the eye and if that wasn't enough, he was doused with gasoline and set on fire. He had second and third degree burns over 85% of his body and the guy who did it drove away as he lied there burning. The paramedic who testified said it was the worst burn case he has ever seen.

| 9. After jury selection, the trial was about 4 days of testimony. |
|
The length of the trial surprised me -- I thought it would be much longer.
We deliberated for two days.
I was speaking to a lawyer friend of mine and he said murder cases usually don't last very long. He said it is the civil cases that stretch on for months, usually.

| 11. That'll do it. Everyone should serve their jury duty to see what its about. |

I was actually on a grand jury once, and it was an enlightening experience. The DA smiled like a snake and always pushed for the death penalty, which he didn't always get. And we were responsible for an investigative committee, and resultant action, into improving race relations between the citizens and the local cops. Yay, us!
