Nu-Wave Oven - anyone have one?

Yeah, I saw the infomercial.

Basically, it's a small counter-top convection oven, which is perfect for me, since I seldom cook for more than two. It also looks easy to clean, which is a plus. And, like all convection ovens, it's faster and more energy efficient than using the conventional oven.

But those infomercials can make anything look good. My biggest feat is that it's sheaplly made crap and will break a day after the warranty expires. I am always willing to pay more for a quality product that will last.

So anyone have one?

1. No, but we did buy one of the 'set it and forget it'

rotisseries and it's one of the best investments we ever made. We were shocked that it actually turned out well. Been using it now for about 3 years.

I've been looking at the reviews of the New Wave and I might just get one. Seems like it would take up the slack where the rotisserie leaves off. Like you, there's only 2 of us. Using the big oven just doesn't make sense most of the time any more.

3. Yeah, I've been looking at the Ronco

Set it and forget it. Friend of mine swears by it.

5. The New Wave model is less violent but more alienated

plus that looks rickety and it looks like a major pain in the ass to clean.

7. No, but I have had two other countertop...

convection ovens, and they were/are great. And cost a lot less.

The cheezy, smallish Euro-Pro, still available at Target and other places, was a bit small, but OK for me. Lasted almost 10 years and two moves before it crapped out. Good deal for 40 bucks, but it was a bit small-- just a little larger than a typical toaster oven.

The GE I'm using is now a Black & Decker and is big. Easily holds my 9" Bundt pan. Works a lot better than the Euro-Pro, and I have no problem doing bread, cakes, small batches of cookies, and large chickens. A small leg of lamb will fit in there. Cost me 40 or 50 bucks in (gasp!) Wal-Mart, but it was a wierd deal. (Don't shoot me-- haven't been in Wal-Mart since!) The B&D model sold for 10 bucks more.

Almost bought a different one in K-Mart. It may have been Hamilton Beach, and it's about the same size as the one I got, but has a rotisserie in it. Usually sells for a hundred bucks, but occasioanlly goes on sale for about 70. Looked really nice. Target had the same model, but for mucho bucks more.

Oh! That thing. I thought you were talking about something else. I've never seen anything with so much plastic on it cook well. Seems like if you get enough heat to cook, it melts tha plastic. So it's never hot enough.
