and I thank you for bringing back some memories for me. It has simply been too long- I must go back. I loved Italy, I love the Italian language, the romance that the Italian names bring. Firenze, Roma, Milano, Napoli, Venezia, Cinqueterra. Thanks for sharing. Hey! what kind of a reception did you have from people once they found out that you were American? Even twenty years ago, I remember the Canadian youth hostel travelers putting a Canadian flag on their backpacks so that they wouldn't be confused as an American. And twenty years ago, some countries still liked us!

the one and only time I've been to Europe, I was about your age, and I absolutely fell in love with Italy. We only went to Rome, Florence, Venice, and Pisa, but oh, it was wonderful. It will probably never happen, but I'd love to go back again.

A couple of months after we got back, I was sitting in my college freshman humanities class, and the professor started talking about Rome, and I remember thinking, "I was THERE, right THERE!" It was such an amazing feeling to actually have been some of the places we studied.

You can't ever explain that feeling, the way that country burrows into your soul so you carry it with you always! You've done a great job of conveying that with your amazing pix!

I too am so in love with Italy, that I cry every time I arrive and then bawl again when I have to leave. I spent a month there in 99, going from Rome to Naples, to Pompeii, Capri, Sorrento, down to Calabria and Cantania, Sicily. I've also been all over Venice, Milan and surrounds, Florence, Pisa and the gorgeous, amazing Cinque Terre, Portofino and Santa Margherita. I don't know where to start a list of all the incredible aspects of Italy. Maybe it's just something that doesn't require explanation, as you walk past a thousand years-old ruin, the scent of pesto wafting from the nearest Trattoria, as the preternaturally beautiful man or woman is speaking passionately to their equally beautiful friend, because Italians understand that life is for LIVING. You smile at them, and plot what flavour your next gelatto is gonna be and whether you can manage just one more cafe latte without going haywire. There is never enough time in that country, no matter how long you stay.

So the only remedy I see is to move there. Believe me, I'm workin' on it!!

but most of what we say was closer to the interstates and not in the downtown area. all of the beautiful historical places seem to be so far unaffected.
