He was posting this morning! Does anyone know what caused this? I'm assuming he got a thread locked or something, but I can't find one.

Disclaimer: It is not my intent to call out or disrespect the mods here. Although I've had a couple of disagreements with this DUer, I haven't noticed any trollish or disruptive behavior on his part, and I found him generally agreeable. I'm just curious to know what happened.

I wouldn't say that I "save files" on DUers, but I do have some bookmarks and notes to help me remember individual posters by name. Some people use the same avatar and people change their signature blocks, so it can be difficult to remember, "Oh, this is the same person who said their favorite show is 'Family Guy.'" or whatever.

But the recordkeeping on individuals, making notes of what they post about, where they post, etc. That's the Internet equivalent of having a private detective follow you around in the offline world. Do you remember who J Edgar Hoover was? He kept files on people, even if there was no evidence to suggest they were doing anything wrong. The only thing they were doing was exercising their constitutional right to freedom of expression and assembly, registering their disapproval, a lot of the time publicly, about our country's actions. These were people like MLK Jr, Julian Bond, Harry Belafonte and tons of other intellectuals, artists and entertainers who got caught up in the big bad Red Scare.

I was just talking wedding songs with him the other day. He seemed very sweetly in love with his partner, and told a great story about how, when he dies, if he gets to the pearly gates and isn't allowed to get into heaven, he wants to hand St Peter a note to give to God that just says, "Thanks for___" his partner. I thought that was nice. :)

I've never interacted with him in any other forum but the lounge. Strange how people can be cool in one place and assholes in another.

For the most part, I only had exposure to him in the Lounge, and he did seem really nice. And what you described about him and his partner...that's very sweet. :)

The only exception was a disagreement I had with him once in GDP. I didn't find his behavior bullying or abusive at all, just...odd...in a way I couldn't describe. Clearly, there was a lot more going on than what I knew about.
