| 1. Ew. Been there. Done that. Cost me 10 thou. |
|
The city wanted me to pay for tearing up the street, an additional 10 thou. I read the by-laws, and the city was liable, so I said if they want to fight, we can fight AFTER I get it fixed, but if I have to pay for it I'll invoke the triple damages clause. They said go right ahead.
The next morning, I get a call from the city attorney: he says can they PLEASE do the work for me, no charge? I tell them it's up to my contractor, who says sure, if they pay for the day's lost time and equipment rental. Attorney actually GROANS, says OK.
So it cost me 10 thou, not 20.

| 3. Holy crap! Mine only set me back 6 thousand. |

My back yard looks like a dirt bike track. They told me that it was going to get worse if they didn't replace the line. They ran this camera thingy down there, (like a colonoscopy for my house). The line was broken in a few places. I just bought this house last September. Let that be a lesson to ya kids. Have the sewer inspected before you sign the deal...

| 5. 20 feet of tile had collapsed, 10 feet of it under the basement slab. |
|
The had to tear that up, along with the front yard.

I was worried that they would have to jackhammer the basement too. That would have doubled the cost.

| 2. Yowsa. How much did that set you back? |
|
I remember back in the 60s when my parents hooked up to the town sewer and it cost about $4K. Can't begin to comprehend what it would cost today.

| 6. Well, look at it this way. You had the money to fix it. |
|
and, you'll build your savings account back up again.
Sorry, though. That totally sucks.
