| Anyone ever tell off a relative, like your mother, and then feel good about |
|
it? We always have fights when elections come around but this time I just emailed her and told her I have a right to say what I want and if she doesn't like it to block my email.
She was upset when I sent her the Hagee video of him calling the Catholic church the world's whore. I reminded her I was not the one who said it. I also said I was the one who cared about the children of this country and on and on and on and I told her that if I told her she was a television set she would not care one bit but if I insinuated that she was selfish and she got upset then there is a grain of truth to it.
Anyway, I felt bad at first but now I feel like I am refreshed and the cloud of depression that was looming over my head is gone. I remember doing this years ago and I felt great too. I also felt like I could breathe better, (I've had asthma all my life)
Oh I also told her she did not scare me anymore. :bounce:
I think parents can oppress their kids even when they grow up and to take a stand and say "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore" can feel real good!
AMEN BROTHER! AND SISTER!

| 1. I haven't, personally. |
|
But I've watched a very good friend go through the process over the last few years of more or less breaking off communication with her narcissistic mother. I absolutely agree that parents can continue to make adult children feel small and worthless, which is sad, and sucks. :(

| 2. Thanks for the support. My mother is very controling and can be very selfish |
|
And the truth is I have been afraid of her for most of my life. Maybe it will come back again but for today....:bounce:
Thanks

| 7. You know we all feel sorry for lonely people in nursing homes whose |
|
kids never come to see them and everyone feels sorry for them But what if the story is that the parent was an abusive parent all their lives to their children?
I'm not saying this is always the case. But you have to realize that in some cases the lonely old person at the old folk's home set it up that way by the way they treated other people through their earlier lives.
It's sad whatever way you look at it though.

I understand how some folks have less than supportive parents, however and I feel for you.

but then again, both my parents are supporting Obama. My family has a big history of feeling guilty, so one of us ends up apologizing.. PLus, I usually hold out for 24 hours on emails like that, and if it doesn't feel right then I don't send it.

But it wasn't about politics. It was about the way we interacted. And yes, it did feel good.

If my relatives have different politics than me, I would never send them emails or videos supporting my views.
I don't require that my family have the same views as I do in order for me to love them. I love them because we are family, and I accept diversity.
