I watched "No Country For Old Men" last night...

Anyone else seen it and what was your opinion? It seemed to be a lot like the old Rutger Hauer movie, The Hitcher. He could never escape from the guy. It seemed like a comment on the random violence in our society. The wrong place at the wrong time and being with the wrong people and you stand a good chance at ending up dead...

1. I thought it was ok.

A little slow in some parts. And the violence was a Little over the top. But it was alright.

2. Amazing movie. About the best directed movie I've ever seen.

I think that the Coen Brothers did a great job of making every scene feel intense without having to use a lot of gimmicks to do it. The lack of music was downright haunting.

I didn't think I enjoyed it that much while I was watching it, but I woke up the next morning thinking about it. Really an excellent film.

3. Probably the best movie of the past several years

4. I thought it was a great movie even though I had to zone out at times

because it was so creepy. I woulnd't rent it again. Even though I missed parts as I zoned out. Too much torturous violence.

due to the way Anton chigorn is portrayed as a cold, heartless killer.

5. I thought it was well done, but I would have liked to have read the book first.

It would have given it a lot better context and understanding to it.

I love the Coen brothers' work and this is no exception; that being said, their best movie still is Fargo and their most enjoyable movie is The Big Lebowski.

8. I loved the gas station coin flipping scene

Anton is chilling.

I was always looking forward to his next scene.

The Academy Awards finally got it right at the top. No Country was better than "There will be Blood" Javier wasn't better than Daniel Day-Lewis, but still incredible, so they give Day-Lewis Best Actor and Javier best supporting actor.

9. It's interesting that had the Josh Brolin character

not had a conscience and returned to help the dieing man asking for water then the events in the movie would not have played out, Josh would have gotten the money and no headache.

14. I thought it was a great movie

A few thoughts:

1) this is the only movie I've seen where they let the desert look as washed out by sunlight on screen as it looks in real life. i'm a desert rat and i've noticed how midday photography that actually captures how the desert looks at midday appears overexposed; it's not. the movie lets it look like that, it looks more real, but it does look 'worse'. i wonder what the directors/producers' thinking was, because it's the kind of thing that would normally be 'corrected'. hmmm.

2) one of the dynamics in the movie (and apparently in the novel) was how the uber criminal used people following society's basic rules of friendliness and helpfulness against them and against others. in other words, he was more successful at his crimes because people cooperated, were polite, etc. etc.

3) meaning? that's a hard one for me. to me the good are always outmatched by the bad guys because their adherence to good makes them unequal to the task of vanquishing the bad guys and yet the ability to get past that restraint is precisely what makes the bad guys so bad. if the good guys did that, they probably wouldn't be good anymore and we wouldn't want them acting on our behalf.

16. The only thing about #2 is...

Josh Brolin's character's immoral (some would say) behavior is what did him in.

It was a fascinating movie. I'm not sure what I think about it, but I think about it often.

15. IMHO I thought it was a good movie, not a great movie and the ending although like real life

left me totally unsatisfied.

I still cannot believe that this won Best Picture.

I even loved the ending (contrary to the way a number of my friends felt). Tommy Lee Jones just gets better and better.....
