| Is there a gay equivalent to the phrase "Uncle Tom"? |
|
A gay person was telling me that "homosexuals" should be grateful to straight people for giving them any rights. And that gay people need to stop telling people they are gay. I asked him if there was a gay equivalent to the insult "Uncle Tom" as used by some African-Americans when describing certain members of their own. He got furious and said I was a "militant homosexual" then huffed off.
I am curious is there a phrase for this?
If not, do you have a suggestion. I am being slightly tongue-in-cheek here, so feel free to be creative.

I'm not up on party politics as much as I should be but IIRC that's the group of Repubs that are homosexual - seems similar to what you described to me. Could be wrong though.

The one who was caught cruising in a gay bar in DC, only to claim he went in to use the restroom?
Perhaps HE is the gay equivalent to "Uncle Tom".

| 12. How come so many men named Bruce are gay? |
|
I am not saying all men named Bruce are gay, but a lot of them are. I told my father that the other day and he said "that is a ridiculous thing to say." Later he called me and said the he had just remembered he knew a guy named Bruce in the Navy during WW2 and that Bruce was gay. "We didn't call it that then," he said.

gay men tend to use their proper name. I've never met a gay guy named Bill or Bob, Always William or Robert.
I think many men who are named Bruce become gay by virtue of their name, no I'm not a scientist, but I played one of TV

We both used qualifiers such as "tend" and "many." And in cities I have noticed many gay men go by "David" instead of "Dave," etc.

anyway...Auntie Lance is the one that my friend calls them, and then I like using Log Cabinettes when I talk about them.
Anyhow, the trend to use the FULL christian name is pervasive. I hate it. I call someone Mike out of friendliness, and "It's Michael!"...usually with a snooty, half irritated tone as if I've breached some sacrosanct decorum.:eyes:
It's Johnathan!...It's Charles!...It's Richard! GAG!
I think it's some kind of elitist queen who wouldn't give the time of day to the common riff-raff, over thirty crowd of "tired queens" who don't matter anymore. "See, I use MULTIPLE syllables in MY name, so everybody must bow before me and use more tongue gyrations, longer breath, and more effort to honor my presence with their utterance of my title, because I'm THAT important! This also helps because I don't want to get toooooo close and friendly with anybody, because lord knows they ALL want me for my body!":puke:
