Since the deck only has 51 cards, it looks like they rolled a dubbie from the flowers in one of the cards. Most notable rendition is done by the Statler Brothers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1s8nRL2bPCU

Other than being a remarkably heinous earworm which one can't avoid because it's right there in the subject line. x(

No.2 in 1966 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flowers_on_the_WallBTW- the Statler Brothers (only two are brothers and they named themselves after a facial tissue brand) bought and developed a park in the middle of their home town of Staunton. Really really nice park.

| 17. Check out the lyrics- he is clearly accustomed to staying in and making his day "complete" |
|
I keep hearin' you're concerned about my happiness But all that thought you're givin' me is conscience I guess If I was walkin' in your shoes, I wouldn't worry none While you 'n' your friends are worried about me I'm havin' lots of fun
Countin' flowers on the wall That don't bother me at all Playin' solitaire till dawn with a deck of fifty-one Smokin' cigarettes and watchin' Captain Kangaroo Now don't tell me I've nothin' to do
Last night I dressed in tails, pretended I was on the town As long as I can dream it's hard to slow this swinger down So please don't give a thought to me, I'm really doin' fine You can always find me here, I'm havin' quite a time
Countin' flowers on the wall That don't bother me at all Playin' solitaire till dawn with a deck of fifty-one Smokin' cigarettes and watchin' Captain Kangaroo Now don't tell me I've nothin' to do
It's good to see you, I must go, I know I look a fright Anyway my eyes are not accustomed to this light And my shoes are not accustomed to this hard concrete So I must go back to my room and make my day complete
Countin' flowers on the wall That don't bother me at all Playin' solitaire till dawn with a deck of fifty-one Smokin' cigarettes and watchin' Captain Kangaroo Now don't tell me I've nothin' to do
Don't tell me I've nothin' to do

| 6. He's wearing a women's bathrobe that doesn't quite close |
|
all the way in the front, with a ratty feather collar that keeps snagging on his three-day growth of beard, and he's smoking cigarette after cigarette from an old pack of Virginia Slims the little woman left on top of the refrigerator the day she moved out. The pack got crushed beneath some greasy Tupperware that once held his corn flakes, so the cigarette bends in the middle, but is not quite broken in two yet. He can't really tell because his bloodshot eyes squint through the smoke as he tries to focus on the burning tobacco, or the television, or anything that will take his mind off the missing Lurline.
So, Virginia Slims.

Speaking of fancy-pants cigarettes, a few years ago the battery of my car was dead. I needed to replace it. So after installing the new battery and taking the old battery in for a deposit, the guy clerk asks if I got it installed ok. I tell him that the bracket that's supposed to hold the battery has not really survived so well, but I think it will hold ok. He comes out to have a look at it and says that it looks good to him too, then he pulls out some misty 120s and has himself a smoke.

| 18. I absolutely love the Statler Brothers and I lovet hat song!! |
|
But I never paid any attention to the words, ever. Now I see them in black and white, how depressing!
I would bet he's smoking some kinds roll-your-owns. If he's watching Captain Kangaroo he can't afford cable.
Which hadn't been invented yet in those days anyway.
That song was on the radio when I was a kid and I always loved the sound of their voices. Got my first Statler Brothers album when I was around 11. Found it in the snow. Without a cover. Couldn't play "Bed of Roses" cuz' the first song on the album had a piece broken out of it.
Later bought it on brand - new vinyl.
Still have it! ; )
The song "New York City" used to make me cry every time I heard it.

But I love that song. I downloaded it off the original Napster way back when.
I like the contrast between the really dark lyrics and the bouncy feel of the tune and vocals.
