| Is this a real drink, or just a movie script drink? |
|
The recipe for James Bond's "Vesper" martini, as described in the 2006 movie Casino Royale:
'Three measures of Gordon's; one of vodka; half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it over ice, and add a thin slice of lemon peel.'
To make this drink yourself, you have to mix the ingredients, strain, and serve in a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a large thin slice of lemon peel.
Kina Lillet, now called Lillet, is hard to find, so you can replace this with another dry Vermouth if necessary.
My comments:
What are "three measures"? Does that mean three shots? If so, this sounds like a strong drink.

| 1. I'm no expert on mixed drinks, but |
|
I think "three measures" is merely a classier way to say "three fingers."

| 2. Mike, a measure could be whatever you wanted it to be, depending on... |
|
how big you wanted the final drink to be. Could be a shot, half a shot, third of a shot, etc.
The important thing would be to keep the relationship between the ingredient sizes as noted in the recipe.

| 3. A "measure" is a full bottle |
|
So to make this so-called martini, you put three bottles of Gordon's, one bottle of vodka and half a bottle of Kina Lillet in a five-gallon bucket, add six pounds of crushed ice and shake it in a paint shaker.
Serves one.

| 5. Think "parts" instead of "measures." |
|
Try 1 1/2 oz gin, 1/2 oz vodka, and 1/4 oz cinzano.
That'd be about right--martinis are strong by definition, but you wouldn't serve a drink with more than a couple of ounces of liquor.
