| 18. For crispy skin, oil them, bake at 425 for 1 hour, let sit for 15 minutes. |
|
The higher temp crisps the skin.
Small potatoes can cook in less, big potatoes maybe 15 minutes more.

| 7. First, scrub the potatoes, get them nice and clean. |
|
Then, rub them with oil, olive or vegetable, if you have it.
Put them in a 400 oven for 30 minutes, just on the rack, no pan.
After 30 minutes, prick them with a fork a couple of times. Lets them steam.
Another 30 minutes - 1 hour total - and they're done.
After you take them out of the oven, wrap them in a towel for 5 minutes. It's a nice finish, like letting meat sit after you cook it, to seal up the juices.
Enjoy, honey .....................

Actually the temperature doesn't matter a whole lot because you don't really have to worry about them burning.
I prefer to cook mine at a fairly high temperature of 450 just because they cook faster and don't tend to loose as much moisture. Just test for doneness after 45 minutes. To test either squeeze them with a towel to see if they have gone soft, or you can stab them with a fork and it should go in and come out fairly easily.
Like someone else said, stab the bejesus out of them before cooking.

|
bake at 400 for 30 minutes with a skewer run through the center. To get crispy skin rub with some kind of fat or oil - bacon grease being the best, of course. Easy to test a baked spud for doneness - just STICK A FORK IN IT! (I kill myself)

How dare you call out someone for using a preposition at the end of a sentence when it is obvious that real crime was the sentence fragment, "On a crappy electric oven?".

| 20. Good point - if he doesn't put them IN the oven, time and temperature don't matter |
|
Personally, I go microwave for 9.5 minutes. However, I like the dryish crunchy bottom that results from the MW method (most cooks would consider a potato the way I like them to be irreparably fucked up)...
