| Why would Ashcroft tell my service provider to close port 35 |
|
I have Cox cable. I was having problems, and I ALWAYS call and report or complain. THe tech guy tried to explain that because of the patriot act they were told to close down three ports. It was causing nationwide problems.
Am I behind on this? What's up?

Inquiring minds want to know. Keep us informed, please. I don't want the A$$croft DOJ having anything to do with my internet. That is frought with peril.

the tech did mention two other ports, but I forgot what he said. Did anyone else experience a slowdown between 6:15-8:15 EDT yesterday? He said it was nationwide.

She is in city where the shrubster visited yesterday if that is any concern... mentioned on the phone that she and a coworker were listening for Air Force One as it took off and went out to flip the bird... wanted to moon it but forgot to put sunscreen on her hiney.

The big Cisco exploit that came out a couple of weeks ago had a workaround of shutting down ports 53, 55, 77, and 103 I think. Of course if you serve DNS that won't work so well!

The worm "blaster" uses 135 (RPC). If your Provider doesn't close 135 for you, you should do it ASAP yourself. (and install the latest security updates.)
BTW: the other ports were probably: TCP/UDP Port 139 TCP/UDP Port 445
