I bought my friend who teaches first grade one a few years back. Those little kids love, love, love seeing those chicks hatch.
It's an amazing lesson. If I had a way to get rid of the chicks? I'd get one for myself. :)

Is funny - until he gets locked in the boy's room at the end of the day.
(For those wondering WTF prune whip is, it was an evil concoction that the lunch ladies invented when they got cans of stewed prunes and bags of dried milk and had to use it somehow. It was purple and about the consistency of Cool Whip.

Less cool but definitely interesting: if you burn sulfur and paraffin together, you can choke pretty badly on the fumes; also, steel wool fires are more fun if you add an oxidizing agent -- but you sometimes have to lie to the pharmacist to get some of the stuff
Also, it doesn't take much current to set off flashbulbs: they offer many possibilities for startling people

Edited on Tue Apr-28-09 02:49 AM by Beam Me Up
"Look at the word LOOK," my first grade teacher said. She pointed out each letter with her middle finger and made all us kids repeat the letters after her: " L O O K " and then she'd say, "Look at the word LOOK" again.
This is when I began to understand they were really messing with my mind. It was somewhat later that I began to make the connection between SPELLING and casting spells, though. Oh, the entrainment of human consciousness to the limitations of verbal language. A world made of words; a universe of yack.
