He was just jumping from a sinking ship. He'll have more power as a Dem now...it might also keep him from losing his position come next election. Sorry if this sounds cynical but just because he'll have the D after his name doesn't mean he'll be after our best interests.

This is perfect. Toomey can have the GOP nomination - Specter already has a solid base of independents and Democrats who support him so his seat is totally safe this way. Screw the GOP - they just lost one of the most influential people in Congress.
