| So I am thinking of getting a scooter |
|
I really wanted to get a VW beetle or some cute vehicle like that, but I was talking with my friend and she wanted to buy a scooter. And then i looked at a link with a picture and I am officialy hooked. It will be my first motorized anything and i think it will be a better choice than perhaps a car , plus my dad is happy to get me one since we cant agree on cars anyways. Do you guys have any good tips or stories regarding scooters? thanks dudes.(ps:i think vespa will be the way too go concerning what type)

|
with motorcyles... although your chances of getting into a wreck are smaller, the chance of being injured badly is much greater.
And, they do not have the speed that motorcycles do, to get out of dangerous situations.
That said, try one out. See if it is for you. You will know.

1.) scooter riders are always cute. i've had an automatic crush on anyone riding a scooter in my city ;-).
2.) be aware that you're going to be limited on where you can go on yer scooter. you'll never be able to hit the highways and interstates on one, so plan accordingly.
oh, wait... one other thing: when i lived in portland, OR, i actually saw a vespa gang. join a gang. you'll be wicked mod and such ;-).

She wants to wear an oldschool helmet and googles with a white scarf and put a lil doggie in the passenger thingie. I shall be very hip with Dean stickers all over my scooter...the dean-mobile I have coined it lol. Screw the big SUV bush-mobiles...even though they are quite the intimidators:scared:

there ya go... you'll be the wicked (glbt?) dean gang, scaring the life out of passing SUV's with yer fuel efficiency.
hey, if you get an actual vespa, you'll be able to match yer helmet color to your bike color. rad, rad, rad!

Have to be the straight dean gang lol, the avatar is for my support of glbt rights. But don't fret, our school has a gay/straight alliance so we can lure people of all backgrounds into our dean scooter gang.Oh, and the helmets, well its the essential part of the outfit of course!

The boy child has had much experience with crashes on mountain bikes. He's been out of action all summer. I hope you find something better than bubble wrap. Being a paraplegic is not the best way to go through life.
Basically, you need to consider the traffic you will incounter. Most American drivers are not used to scooter traffic. They are renting them here in Colorado Springs. It can be scary for car drivers, especially if the streets are narrow and traffic is heavy.
Good luck if you decide to try one. :D
Have you told your mother?

She seems to be apathetic, but i think it was since she was working all day the time wasnt right. Anyways , the scooter is very practical for me since I will only be driving it to and from school and the mall and whatnot until I head to college next year, when I will be taking the train or driving some sort of real car. The traffic in and around Chicago seems to be a bit scary. But i suppose asking around with people who have driven/sell them is the best . Thanks for your concern and tips;-)

What is it about Chicago and Vespas? Must be that Scooterworks place...
Don't waste your time with the dinky 50cc. engines. Get at least a 150, or if you can find one, one of the older 250 cc. models. THOSE have enough oomph to get out of their own way. the 50's are just toys.

When I was there last summer many people had them. They seem to make up the landscape in a weird way. But, when you had your scooters(plural!) did you have any safety problems as you were out and about, because thats my main problem...the issue of me(small 17 year old) versus earth destroyer SUV's. thanks for any help!

Edited on Tue Aug-12-03 09:20 AM by LeftPeopleFinishFirs
:wtf: Just curious. That's my favorite car, but they're pretty expensive even when they're used.
A scooter would be very cool, I know a few people who have Vespa scooters and they like them- not many places to use them around my area though, too woodsy and hilly.

|
My father dislikes VW with a fiery passion. He wants me to get an American car(barf) but I am sort of apathetic anyways as long as I get something that runs. His face brightened at the idea of his little girl tearing her way through Chicago and surrounding areas on a Vespa. But my mom, well she is not taking too well to the idea and it looks to be an uphill battle from here on out.
