I've tried to include something from every incarnation of King Crimson's existence. I've probably left out a couple of biggies, so please chime in!

King Crimson played a live set on the ABC comedy/variety show Fridays back in 81 or 82. Their set featured Elephant Talk and Thela Hun Ginjeet.

The show has already played host to Kate Bush, David Gilmour, and Peter Gabriel in the past, so I think a King Crimson appearance would be only proper.

17. i got to see fripp open for porcupine tree a couple years back...twice.

p tree was recording their dvd at the park west in chicago, and during the show, they announced that there would be a second up to then unannounced show the next night, because they wanted to do some more recordings for the dvd.
so we went back.



when we were in college, 'Exposure' was de rigueur for every time we tripped.

22. I saw him open for that tour in NYC.

The audience was very respectful, which I've heard wasn't the case during other shows on the tour. He got a standing ovation when he was done.

24. most of the people at the park west were standing for fripp's entire set...

crowded around the stage...but the rest of the venue was filling up with people for the p.tree show that didn't seem that interested- either in appreciating or being respectful.

i wasn't sure if fripp would be there for the second night- so i didn't bother bringing my exposure album for an autograph- but he was...and i got a chance to talk to him briefly in the hallway after his show that night. he doesn't seem all that...outgoing.

28. Many years ago, a friend went to see Fripp on the first solo tour...

after the show, my friend, who was a very talented painter, presented Fripp with a portrait. Fripp silently accepted the gift, whipped out a magic marker, scribbled a mustache on his likeness, and then returned the painting with,"Thanks, but no thanks"

29. Having seen the J.M.W. Turner exhibit in Dallas...

I remember seeing this Turner portrait of an outdoor scene where one of his students played a trick on him by pasting a cutout drawing of a dog on the canvas, just to see if Turner noticed. A week or so later, Turner did notice the dog, stared at it for a moment, shrugged his shoulders, and put a coat of varnish over the dog as though he put it there himself.

Fripp's response to that portrait reminded me of the Turner prank. I can see two responses to this: the artist could be put off by Fripp's rejection, or he could be amused by the fact that Fripp "personalized" the portrait with his own touch, albeit an eccentric one.

27. You should also get Peter Gabriel's "scratch" album (2nd solo)

and Daryl Hall's Sacred Songs. Both appear on Exposure, all were produced by Fripp, and the three albums function very well as companion pieces.

35. i've had them all on vinyl practically since they came out...

in the liner notes fripp talks about them all being conceived a set, but that they weren't able to be released as such.

exposure also exposed me to the roche sisters because of terre's wonderfully tortured vocals.

21. I Talk to the Wind

I've got a great love of In the Court of the Crimson King (song and lp, but I'm talking about song). My high school band used to cover it. Starless is something I can listen to over and over. However, I Talk to the Wind, at least to me (and I realize this is personal) is one of the 20-30 songs that I can listen to endlessly, and it never wears out.

23. This is very tricky.

I tend to prefer the lineups in this order:

1. Double Trio
2. 1981-1984 Quartet
3. Fripp/Belew/Gunn/Mastellotto
4. "In The Court" through "Red"

I don't think I've listened to the latest 5 piece lineup yet, but I imagine it would be somewhere before #4, especially with Gavin Harrison on drums and Tony Levin on bass.
