Question for the cat experts

I have a 1998 Australian Mist in, for the most part, excellent condition...it purrs along, and corners well.

However, there is some activity forming in underneath areas....Someone at work told me to go to Petsmart and buy a spray that helps slow the activity process down..He also said to buy an undercoat, & spray that on a day after...

Now, can this stop the activity, or does it only slow it down?....I was always under the assumption that activity can't be stopped once it begins...
