This just sucks...cat problem

My cat just brought in an infant animal with very slight injuries. It still has it's eyes closed. I ain't no vet, so I'm not sure if it's a dog or a rabbit or maybe even a cat.

I've dealt with my cat's large birds, rabbits, moles, lizards and other vermin, sometimes dead, sometimes partially still alive. No biggie. I just finish'em as nicely as possible (if necessary) and bury.

But I'm having a hard time with this one. Don't know what to do. I got him (pretty sure it's a male) in a box with a spoonful of milk.

This is tormenting.

1. Take It To The Vet or WildLife Center in Your Area

And keep your cat inside!

4. Put it in a box with a heating pad on low..under a towel..

Mix a teensy bit of sugar into the milk..

If it's alive in the morning, take it your vet.. They might be able to take care of it or at least tell you what it is..

Be on the lookout too, for an injured Mom.. They will usually fight back to try to save their babies..

9. Well, almost.

This little guy looks a bit thicker. Paws are not spread out. Legs look about same length. But the ears, I can't figure out the ears. They are longer and flopped back.

I'd say rabbit, but it just doesn't seem to have the right overall shape, almost pig looking. Ears are rounded also. Baby rabbits I've had in past had pointy-er ears.

It looked like my cat took special care of the little guy bringing it in. Very small bite wounds, like she was carrying her own. Also, she usually leaves victims on the porch.

8. Maybe the mother was gone

so it wasn't protected. Things like that happen in nature.
My bitch (i.e. female dog) loved cats, she found some feral cat kittens, that had been abandoned, and was overjoyed, unfortunately, her licking them (natural reaction, tongue too big, she was a German Shepard) killed them. They died of overlove.
My cat would bring into the house bisected cotton-tails (at first I thought the neighbor had done it) but no it was the cat and the rabbits were 1/2 her size (I finally sympathized with her because my brothers rabbits destroyed my father's rose garden and our cat at the time was able to get the babies). I've seen a mama rabbit in the wild stomp to death a big ole rattler, so I will never say coward like a rabbit.
Don't worry, nature has taken her course.
What I do worry about is humans that want to kill animals that are doing what animals do and move into their habitat and wnt to kill them.
As I said to my kitten who chased a road-runner: kid that mother is bigger than you. She has a scar on her nose and knows to not chase road-runners and hide from hawks, etc.

10. Yeah, I've gotten the bisected rabbits myself.

One time it looked like a freakin autopsy. Head over here, intestines over here, body over here...eck!

11. Okay, It's a rabbit. I'm positive now.

I've just never seen one this small before (neither has my cat, I think). It just stood up a little, and I could tell be the posture, it was a rabbit.

Now, if I only had a snake. :evilfrown:

13. Yep, that seals it. It's 100% Grade A bunny rabbit.

Thanks SoCal. It's a little older than those pics (more fur).

I'm worried now that my vet will laugh in my face if I give it to him tomorrow. I can hear it now, "Rabbit, hell, let's stew'm up!".

My sister has got two rabbits already, maybe she can use third. But I still think this guy is too young to be without mother. I just don't know.

14. Feed it to the cat

The cat will have no trouble disposing of it :evilgrin: I'm not sure it'd make a good pet since it's not a domesticated animal.

I had a cat who caught a baby bunny in the yard 3 times. Each time I chased the cat away. After the third time I figured the bunny had got the idea that this wasn't the smartest place to hop around. 6 months later we moved our canoe under the deck and discovered a pile of baby bunny bones and some tufts of fur...

17. I used to have a cat that

caught baby bunnies and brought them in to torture before eating. She never brought one in without hair; they were always alert and hopping. I took them away from her and released them, but I knew they were going to near certain death, since I didn't know where the nest was, and I didn't think they could find their nest from right outside the house. They probably ended up as a meal for the local owls; hopefully quicker than torture by cat. Rabbits scream in terror; a horrifying, heart-wrenching sound.
